I really don't see the point in compilation albums either unless they have some heavy material going on in there. If I am going to buy a compilation album, it better have new editing and mixing, unreleased songs, the artist's best songs to date, alternate arrangements and compositions, and amazing packaging. Slapping a bunch of songs on an album with 1 new song, standard jewel case packaging, ugly cover art, no new/up to date/alternate remixes/versions, no unreleased demos or songs, no new songs, or any of those bells and whistles is hardly worth buying except for collector's purposes. True, but BEST albums normally are made for people who are not fans, who may hear a few songs from an artist occasionally on radio and likes them enough. If I'm not an ayu fan, A BEST II/A COMPLETE will seem like great buys.

Even as a fan, I have to disagree with you about A BEST II. The arrangement of the songs on the 2 albums was something that changed it from a normal release to one I really loved (Black with the darker songs, White for happy ones). The albums made me listen to songs I haven't listened to since their initial release, and hearing them all together made me realize why I fell in love with ayu in the first place. I still listen to those albums now.
