I'd like to know... do people here generally dislike vibrato or is it just in Ayu's case?
Her voice is pretty. On a good day. That's how I'll put it... it conveys enough emotion to make me feel what she's feeling.

Although i like the way how she sings today, there is always a moment
where i miss that high pitched voice of hers.:-))
She is STILL able to sing high in some of her songs which is
always heartwarming and touching to hear.
I just remembered how she sang HEAVEN at missunderstood tour final,
and that ABSOLUTELY BEST live performance for forgiveness at CDTV.
That was AND STILL IS PRICELESS at least for me!!!
Emotion is that what counts the most in regards to Ayu's song's
lyrics and of course voice.
She is ONE - OF - A - KIND!!!

I like her voice, its not something I show to people 'oh look at this amazing vocalist' cuz she's not, all she does is having unique voice (you know that's ayu singing whenever you hear her) and the emotion she delivers.

I do love it. It's far from perfect. But as a whole, there is much more to ayu the artist than her voice.

If ayu had perfect voice, full of range and everything she would lost her touch imo.

I think her vibrato is fine, and another friend of mine who is a musician think's it's fine, too. But to be fair, he's only heard one of her songs.

Personally i have to agree with you 100% Ayu was the first jpop i've ever heard, so naturally i just assumed jpop music was supposed to sound so high and screechy at times
and i grew to like if not love it!
I love when ayu does those really high notes (i know some poeple hate it) but for me its when her emotions feel at their rawest and truest!

I love vibrato. I sing with natural vibrato. Ayumi forces her's. She sounds like she's going from two completely different notes when she does it.

I like vibrato too.

But Ayu's is so incredibly ridiculous lol

it's because she IS going from two completely different notes when she does it.

She sounds like...does anyone in here go shooting? Those things they use to call the turkeys? That's what she sounds like.

Her vibrato nowadays is fine to me. It doesn't sound awkward or like she's going from two completely different notes like it did from 2006-2008.

^Yeah, I think this year has been generally a lot better. Her worst years for vibrato were 2002 and 2008 imo.

I love Ayu's voice. I love it all the more because it's flawed, it's just so her.

I think her voice is to love or to hate.
Her voice is very unique. My bf says that some tracks he would love if there was a diffrent singer.

I hate when she is doing too much of vibretto, and sing "hard/massive" (can't expain this really...) But she came back with Love songs to her normal, and "pert" vocal. It's something in it, you can hear this exact in "Love song". Her technique is now perfect. I hope it will stays forever!

her voice on CD tracks is usually fine with me, but she has her odd moments. I don't *love* her voice but I like it, as others have said it's distinct and she sounds good.

her live voice leaves so much to be desired. sometimes she sounds really good, but usually she screams so much live, or she sings off key. I hope she improves in this aspect because it would make her shows so much better for me.

I don't love it, nor hate it.

She overdoes her vibrato, though.

She doesn't have an OMGAMAZING voice (well...sometimes she does), but she puts so much emotion into her songs that her voice is amazing for her, if that makes sense She tries her best~

i love her voice from 1998-2001. However in 2002 it was just getting worse, like too much vibrate, and then in 2004-2006 it got better again - less vibratos and stronger belting - but now, it's kinda so-so

but her live voice is so horrible, she really needs to use another singing technique, seriously, she doesn't have to have the same technique like Peco & Princess -> well they're beyond terrible.. T__Ta

i like her current vocal more than her old vocal~
but i notice that her current live vocal is too strained... T__T
is she lacked of vocal training or something? i think she's too busy to do the training or som.. but i love her recorded vocal in album though
she just needs to do vocal training, not "shout" when singing~ that hurts me when she sings like that T__T
also i really wish she could do some adlibs/improvisations during live though.. with just yeah yeahh wowww wowww..it's not enough~

Okay I love her vibratos. I think they are a trademark of ayu and I wish she did them more.

Like the hey-ey in "Love Song," I thought was horrible. It sounded like a scream. If she tapered it off with a vibrato, honestly, that could make me have shivers (good kind)!

Also in "Thank U," she seems to be concentrating on holding the tone more than sounding elegant or easy-on-the-ears, and it sounds like shes struggling to scream.

because of this, Love Songs is not one of my favorite albums.

However she always has a song I can't seem to listen to...

still alone sounds so squeaky, so does For My Dear..., and her cutesy voice can get on my nerves.

I think a good song for ayu's voice, would be Naturally, or Next Level. They don't stress her too much and she seems to always sing them nicely

I love her voice since then. Even though, she sounded "Mickey mouse" in her earlier career, I just love it. I think I really don't mind her vocals because I'm more focused on how she sings the songs.

But I mostly love her vocals on Duty-I am... Era.

The only thing that bothers me is her vibrato in 2006-2007 but I became used to that. Her present vocals are acceptable too although I'm still in love with her vocals on my fave era.

So overall I love Ayu's vocals since 1998. ^_^
