Already posted here but things have been changed a bit. Since I got last.fm account I'm still a OCD. With japanese artists I don't have much problems, I tag everything as it should be, except I ALWAYS leave a space after feat. word and I don't care is it always correct (BoA's collabs can go die ugh). I'm always wondering whether should I go by japanese font (damn ~s!) or just type from my keyboard. And I most often use japanese font.

And korean music. I always tag artist name in hangul except those with numbers (2AM, 2NE1 etc.) and BoA (though nowadays, you know... ). I gave up with adding volumes, special descriptions in brackets [(Digital Single), (Mini Album), (EP)] to releases, I just type the title (e.g. NO.1 instead of 2집 NO.1). When artists are singing in more than one language (mainly japanese in that case) and they have other, official name in this country I'm going to tag other language stuff like that (most popular example: 東方神起 for japanese stuff, 동방신기 for korean).

I always go to sites like melOn to check the correct names of releases and songs.
I so agree about the feat. tag

BoA sucks with that man. UNIVERSE feat.Crystal Kay & VERBAL(m-flo)? Ew gross. Space BoA, use it.

As for TOHOSHINKI and DBSK, I do that too. It's weird having a Korean release under their Japanese name...it just doesn't feel right

And I have like, three tags for Utada. The Kanji, Utada, and Cubic U x.x

For JPN artists, capitalization is ALWAYS correct. And I NEVER use ~, it's ALWAYS ~. Even if it's just like "OMG A SONG ~FOR YOU~" or something lmao.

^ or BUMP! BUMP! feat.VERBAL(m-flo). And this is the official name. WTF I'm refusing of tagging it like that.

Well, about TVXQ I'm not suprised people are tagging all their works under 東方神起, because it's their very official name which is in chinese (Tong Vfang Xien Qi). It's kind of luck japanese translation looks the same and has the same meaning Though 동방신기 is more popularized in Korea for a simple reason, it's easier to Koreans to know their name in mother language. (There's the same issue with other korean band, The Grace. Official and japanese name is 天上智喜, in Korea they're known as 천상지희)

I'm very strict with my tags...right down to the correct way to spell/write it (such as Korean vs. English romanization). Also everything has to be capitalized or typed in lower case exactly as it is supposed to be. All the songs have to be in the correct numerical order or else I go crazy . Pretty much it's gotta be 100% accurate....

^ CD covers are ALWAYS confusing when it goes to kpop, I wouldn't believe them at all unless there's only one name, not like The First Mini Album Blah Blah Blah La La La. Like I said the best way to be sure is checking out korean sites like melOn, daum, m-net etc.

Park Ji Yoon's "The Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" was a confusing album as generasia said there was 10 tracks, melOn said there was 11 tracks, Daum said there was 12 tracks and Wikipedia said there was 14 tracks. My downloaded copy had 14.
Also, on all places, her "Woo~ Twenty One" album has 16 tracks, and my downloaded copy had the last two missing.

maniadb is a pretty good place to find discography info for Korean artists. They usually have cover scans, including the back, so you can verify track lists.

^^ woah this is such a weird issue! what does her official website say?

^ maniadb has many uncorrect names for both albums and singles, especially in oldschool artists' profile pages. and tracklist in the back cover can have sometimes errors as well.

^Which album? The Age Ain't Nothing But A Number or Woo~ Twenty One?

It's easier to browse an artist's page rather than try to find an specific album since the search engine can be a bit flaky.

True, and I think that it just goes to show how the Korean industry isn't that concerned with accuracy and consistency when it comes to the details of their music releases. A lot of the time what's written on the back cover will differ from what's written in the booklet so I wouldn't kill myself looking for accurate tags.

Personally, as long as the album title is there and some form of the song name (except translations, I hate those ), I think it's fine.

Ugh tagging Korean music is still tough ;3;
good deal!

for me, all covers must be 600x600 PNG. title tracks must be exactly as printed on the CD. disc number, composer and writers must be left blank. only artist, album, track number, genre, year, title and the cover are completed. single digit track numbers must be preceded by a zero. i use Mp3tag, by the way. i highly recommend it!

I'm not really strict, but I like to keep my playlist neat. I only use romaji since I have other people looking at my music. (Good thing Last.fm combines Japanese and romaji together.) But every song must have a picture over 600x600 and high quality too. XD; (I use bowtie on Mac and I like having pictures showing up on my ipod touch.)

And I see I'm not the only one who fidgets on TVXQ's tag. I got so frustrated I added it all under TVXQ (except JYJ). People will kill me, but whatever. lol.

How do we tag Korean artists? Like, I was watching "Music Bank" and when they were showing MBLAQ it was shown as 엠블랙 (MBLAQ). But on last.fm, apparently that's wrong I cannot figure out Korean tagging.

^ Because there are hangul versions of names, you know. Their official name is MBLAQ but 엠블랙 is how people are calling them in Korea because it's easier for them to pronounce. Btw I tag every korean musician in hangul name to not meet eventual problems and it isn't also a wrong way because they're called like that in their mother country + most, if not all artists are tagged in hangul on CDs. So I don't care for those people who badly want to merge pages on last.fm.

Music shows are messing up with showing artists' names, song titles, even lyrics.

So true. They really don't make it easy for all of us whop actually give a ****.

But I don't agree with tagging every Korean artist in hangul. Some are pretty much always written in English (i.e. obvious ones like 2NE1 and 4minute, but also After School, Brown Eyed Girls, etc.), so I don't think hangul should be the default choice, even if the country is Korea. The only time I think you know 100% that it's hangul is if it's the person's name, like Hyori and Taeyang.

I personally cannot listen to music that are not tagged, especially when the album art is missing. In 99.9% I will freak out and search the album art on the internet to properly tag the song. I do not go as far as labeling which person did the guitar, strings etc.

Luckily because of the fact that I only download [Full] album's I get rid of this problem very often.

Whenever I cannot find an album art that is square or bright, I will edit it in Photoshop to make it more "lively" XD. I cannot stand having Low quality covers in my library. For tagging I use Mediamonkey

And when tagging an ayu song, I never write ayu's name as "ayumi hamasaki" but as "Ayumi Hamasaki". And no kanji artist names for me either, just; Ayumi Hamasaki, Namie Amuro etc.

So what about, for example, Rainbow, Secret, or T-ara? See, if those names weren't taken by other bands on Last.fm, everybody would tag them like that, not in hangul. I'm tagging them in hangul (EXCEPT those with numbes) because it's safer, it's not wrong as everybody seem to think, and I'm also not dependent on Last.fm.

Though I sometimes have to be, when one page is taken by few various artists and/or artist's name is spelled wrong. Hello Unicode
