Dude, I know how fan forums work. And I stand behind my original statement. The problem is, my original post wasn't even nasty. I backed my opinion up and attempted to analyze the song. Of course the adjectives I used to describe aspects of the song were going to be negative, well because.. I don't like the song. I even ended my post on a hopeful note (hoping that they can redeem themselves with the new song). Obviously, it's implied that I'm asking for other people to chime in with their thoughts about the song... Do I really have to add, "HOW BOUT U GUYZ? WUT DO U GUYZ THINK ABOUT THA SONG? I don't think it's him as a person or personal against him, it's just the fact that DREAM on sucked and why would we want another song with the together after that?

I've never really thought of the song as horrible per se, but I've never liked it either. I listened to it maybe twice and had zero interest after that (which is really unheard of with me and Ayu songs). So I'm definitely not looking forward to another collaboration, but we'll see how it turns out. -__-"

Funny how I find this thread after a day of basically listening to Dream ON and the remix on the single 15 times in a row.
I quite like it, it's VERY different from her usual work in a fresh way. It's not a deep song, it's not a complex masterpiece, but it doesn't pretend to be either of those unlike some people in pop do with every of their mediocre songs. It doesn't pretend to be M, Free & Easy or Heartplace, it doesn't even pretend to be a Sparkle. It's just a fun song, nothing more, which simply is something we are not used to from Ayu(except for some of her summer singles which mostly imo are much worse than Dream ON).
And it's a genre we never got from Ayu in that form either so I think most people that dislike it don't really dislike the song but simply the genre. It's just alienating to hear Ayu doing it for some people I think. Just like Ayu doing electropop, orchestral ballads or rock seems weird and bad to some.

My point stands, I like it, but you have to see it for what it is: a fun RnB-pop song you can sing along to. Some comparisons I have seen are kinda...stupid.
I wouldn't want Ayu to mostly or only do this genre but I really welcomed Dream ON and am looking forward to ANother song and the collab with JUNO.
(And I think her vocals are quite good in this actually, it's a different vocal style(reminds me of Startin' a bit) but it comes across as powerful)

Not a fact, there is absolutely NOTHING objectively wrong with Dream ON except for the English grammar. There is no songwriting, singing or producing fail in it. You just personally dislike it, which is fine but really not a fact. The melody is catchy, that's all needed to make a pop song not bad.

Nops... AHS is full of amazing people and a made more than one REALLY good friend over here... actually, I would say I can consider one or two of them to be some of the best friends I have, and they are at a ocean of distance from me =)

Still... What does your thread have to discuss? The initial post was "Eeew, this song sucks, me dislike!"... Maybe I'm wrong here, but I can't see where does this gives room to a deep, relevant life-changing discussion as you seens to think ur thread is...

U r not asking anything or proposing a discussion, just saying u hate the song, so what can people say? "I agree" and "I disagree".... and all the replies that aren't trashing the thread, are saying exactly that, being it on a long text or just with 3 words...

Point taken. Maybe "colloquially" would have been a better choice than "grammatically" lol. I still wouldn't call it "terrible," though that may be because other J-pop artists have set the bar very, very low.

A little more on-topic, Dream ON is never going to be a masterpiece for me, more like a guilty pleasure. I think that's pretty much what the majority of people have said here though. I think it's a sweet little difference in Ayu's career, but I have to admit I'd be disappointed if she permanantly went down the RnB route, I personally don't think it suits her voice. But whatever.

Someone claimed to analyse the song, but if they really had, they would've discovered the above, that it's not that different from most pop songs, but it's an unusual style for ayumi.

There are several songs that I like less in ayu's own discography, among others the aforementioned Microphone, which in many ways is a song to be expected from ayu within the context of her discography, hardly surprising or novel compared to Dream ON. For me it's too noisy and the mlody and structure doesen't appeal to me as much as many of her other similar rock tracks, but there's nothing technically wrong with that song either...

The first chorus is at least understandable. the second chorus though..

I don't even understand that stanza. Don't really know why people are making excuses for her bad English here, especially when she's had excellent English lyrics like those in "Real me" and "forgiveness"

Yeah, maybe for some people it is alienating. But I like R&B club bangers a lot. I'm all for Ayu trying new genres. I just thought Dream ON was a very poor attempt at urban pop.

I don't understand how you can say any of this... So when people dislike songs, it always comes down to that individual's personal opinion and never because of the song's flaws and imperfections. People can't always pull this "personal opinion" nonsense. Then there would be no point in discussing anything, ever. I would say that a lot of Ayu's songs have technical flaws. For instance.. Bold & Delicious, Last Links, For My Dear... doesn't mean I don't love those songs I just mentioned.

You clearly did not understand what I was meaning to say. I do not believe that art is as subjective as many people seem to, I believe the biggest part of it is indeed objective as it is in the context of a culture, but I cannot find one objective major flaw about Dream ON(I cannot find those about Bold & Delicious and Last Links either, on the contrary I think both are quite welldone in every way with Last Links being amongst Ayu's best recent songs arrangement-wise) and you, as the person saying it is flawed, should prove it is indeed flawed. Saying "the song sucks" or "it's a poor attempt at being this and that" is not proving anything.
Point at specific parts, explain why exactly you think they are flawed, before you go on making such statements. Because I have yet to see you do anything like that. All you do is say how much you dislike the song and that it sucks oh so much much in very vague sentences. I agree that Dream ON is not a masterpiece and one of Ayumi's worse if not worst songs, but objectively calling it a bad pop/RnB song...I don't think that is possible.
