Why does ayu get so many ViVi covers?

Just an inquiry...she seems to get like 4-6 covers a year? Lol

I guess a more appropriate question would be ... why in the recent years she appears in basically the same mags over and over.

^^I don't think that question needs answering. It's because those are the mags she would naturally be on. It's not like she'd be on the cover of a bridal magazine, or a computer magazine, or anything else...

^ Japanese magazines are really heavy, so the shipping is more than the magazine itself.

Hahahaha no one seems to be answering the question.

Maybe it's because she's got this Deji Deji Diary contract with ViVi, so it can be part of that same contract that she does exclusive interviews with ViVi everytime she releases something, which can lead to those 4-6 appearances each year. And when the queen of Jpop does an interview with you, you'd best put her face on the cover. Just my guess.

The mags she's been appearing in recently are the ones that really matter in the fashion/lifestyle section. ViVi, JELLY, SCawaii, Sweet... She dropped Popteen but picked up Otona Look!s, which is natural since her core fanbase has aged along with her over the years. As PIECES said, you don't expect her to appear in computer magazines and stuff, and she doesn't do mags like egg (lol!) and KERA because those are gyaru mags and that's not her fashion style.

I mean magazines that don't appear as bright and colourful as the ones she's usually featured in. I know she's a pop-star, but she's also a musician. There are magazines that are dedicated to music, or just general entertainment, maybe even art--something with a more serious feel. I haven't been to Japan, so I don't know, but there are loads of them in England, and even more, touching on a wider range of topics ... but her image doesn't go with that (and she probably doesn't feel like doing it anyway), so that must be why.

it makes sense when you read all of them I guess...

Like, some of those mags that she's always in, like Sweet, feature a lot of western fashion too, and I think that fits her a lot compared to mags like JJ, which she's never in, that mostly feature the super trendy japanese brands.

idk Vivi is such a gigantic mag with this whole huge focus. They seem to love the trendy japanese stuff, but also celebrity power, and they even feature big western artists too. So I think she fits in there cause, she has the whole style thing and then the big star thing.

I kinda thought it was odd she started doing JELLY...just cause it seemed so much more..."trendy edgy sexy" lol but I don't read it that much so.

it's just ViVi. you can also find Namie appearing on the cover quite frequently. among this year issues I've got 1 with Nishino Kana, 2 with Namie Amuro and 1 with ayu. ViVi is so predictable! but I was really glad to see ayu on the Jan cover it means she's still relevant for ViVi and that's actually very good sign, cause I'm sure this magazine is one of the best selling among girls from 17-25.

and what about others.. well, ayu can't appear on the covers of magazines like egg, happie nuts, ageha, Ranzuki and else, since they provide only their own magazine's models on the cover. so of course, the amount of the magazines on whose cover ayu can appear reduces.

what about music magazines... hmm, well she doesn't release that much nowadays, so it's understandable she doesn't appear on the covers of music magazines

Well, generally, Ayu is seen more like a fashion diva than as a musician to a good part of Japan population...

I think she just appears on the magazines that mirror her sense of style the most..Sweet for her dolly style, JELLY for beauty and ViVi/SCawaii for rockish/edgy/fashionista style

As a combination of what others have said, it's part "this is her style" and "ayu is a fashion icon". Ayu is often used to push certain brands, and even though her music may not be as popular now, many young girls still see her as a huge fashion icon. There are some girls I've talked to who see Ayu as a model first with that whole singing thing on the side, lol.

ETA: OH, and the reason for Vivi specifically is two-fold. 1) As someone else said, there's the deji-deji thing. Plus Vivi often features the "queens" on their covers. Namie is another super popular one, and sometimes Kumi is on there too. Kana and Miliyah are rather popular and I've seen Anna on there at least once. and 2) vivi is one of, if not THE biggest Japanese fashion magazine. So it's actually a really good thing that she's featured a lot, because they pull a lot of weight. Vivi is always pushed to the front of magazine racks and is, imo, one of the more expensive ones lol (as I was reminded when I bought the most recent one tonight).
