Opinions on A-nation '14
For those who have seen it, I'd want to hear your opinions...
Was I the only one to find the STEP you/XOXO performance particularly raunchy in a trash kind of way? XD My problem is not with the whole outfit or dance itself, it's that she didn't look... confident? at ease? especially when singing STEP you. She was looking at the pole the whole damn time and I got this "omg lemme hold strongly imma about to fall from here" feelin'. WHY. then when walking down the catwalk: "omg are they gonna like it? does it look sexy like this? shake shake" I liked the rest, especially the love song performance. She was looking happy and confident and "ayu"-like throughout the rest of the show. I actually liked XOXO when she performed it at PREMIUM SHOWCASE, and I know the performance is the same, but it looked more out of place here. As if she were another person. Then BLUE BIRD came and I was like "yo ayu welcome back!". Even her way of moving, attitude... they totally changed. is it just me? Am I overreacting? Plese debate!

I must admit that the STEP YOU performance didn't really get me. Neither the XOXO performance (perhaps due to the fact that its my least favorite track on Colours) but BlueBird onwards were awesome! Especially Love Song. I was touched on her acapella.

Not every style is for every artist. Ayumi pulls of performances with styles involving seriousness( anation 14 love songs) deep feelings(a song for xx at Abest live) , courage
( evolution, boys and girls, surreal at almost every tour) cuteness ( energies and sunrise at next level tour) . But when it comes down to styles like sexiness and dancing ayu just looks wrong. Ayu is not sexy, she's pretty but not sexy. So that's the reason why her xoxo performance plus step you was a complete disaster. Also ayu can't dance she can throw some dance moves around but ayu can't dance she simply can't. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that because no one can be good at everything. I liked it. It was a bit suspicious to me, because she sounded too perfect. I just knew the guy-riding part in XOXO would be there, so I felt less disappointed when I actually saw it.

Yes, I felt some issue with the sound as well, but I believe it's due to the tv-rip...So we'll have to wait for the DVD, even if I know that her voice will be overprocessed XD I actually liked that in XOXO I could her her singing, I love the party when she goes "CRAZEH" *snap* XD btw, as calltome said, ayu cannot pull this kind of style. I don't particularly mind the "slutty" image, I love koda kumi for instance, but I don't think it suits her at all. Especially when she puts BLUE BIRD with the white ethereal dress and innocent smile after it. I was confused in a not positive kind of way. XD
The 1,2,3 new part in step you was absolutely unnecessary and didn't fit at all with the song sound imo. I also didn't like interludes. WAY TOO LONG. The opening one is kinda cool, but the other ones... meh.

I haven't watch it as a whole but I saw the STEP you and XOXO, and indeed it felt weird, maybe because she's pulling both sexy and cute with that outfit and act which I found not as good. Ayu can be sexy imo (e.g GAME in AT05 or 1 LOVE in AT07) and I prefer that over her acting as a schoolgirl but there's something about STEP you and XOXO performance that kinda 'decrease' the sexiness. Maybe because I thought that STEP you and XOXO are not sexy songs and are cute energetic songs instead.
I LOVE the intro where they incorporate the base melody of STEP you into Marching Band btw, and I love seeing her experimenting with those kind of things like Madge or Kylie did. |
