Goo Ranking made a survey about who you want to perform at the 2020 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony and Ayu came at #27 place! I'm shocked she actually appeared tbh

The 2020 Summer Olympics is set to be held in Tokyo and although far off, it’s still managing to create buzz. Goo Rankings has conducted a study collecting data to get a sense of who the Japanese public want to perform at the opening ceremony.

This survey was conducted as a questionnaire back in February of this year and just released this week. It consists of responses from 500 people, evenly split between male and female.


In first place, the public chose Ryuichi Sakamoto with 17.4% of the total vote. He gained major success in 1978 as a member of the electronic music group Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), where he played keyboard and sometimes provided vocals. Since the dissolution of the group, he has received attention for his solo activities, releasing acclaimed hits like “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” and “Energy Flow(URA BTTB)“.

In July of last year, Sakamoto revealed he had been diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer. He announced a break from work and is seeking treatment and recovery. The respondents are hoping for a full recovery from the prolific musician come 2020 so he can represent the country on the world stage.

In second place is Southern All Stars, the long running pop rock band that was formed in the mid-1970s. Although they suspended activities back in 2008, the group came back in 2013 for their 35th anniversary to widespread attention. As if they had never taken a break, their growing celebrity across demographics is undeniable making them a popular choice to perform for the 2020 Olympic games.

In third place is Johnny & Associates very own Arashi. Over the years the members have grown in popularity both individually and as a group, leaving behind a string of successful TV shows, dramas and musicals, as well as their music. Their string of million-selling singles has cemented their reputation as the national idol group making them a sensible choice to perform.

I loved them just as much as Ayu back when, like they were simultaneously my favorites. XD I still listen to a ton of their music but I never meet anyone who knows or cares about them.

Utada, Ayu, and SES were the first singers that made me fall into music fandomness. I just wish it was easier to get a hold of their CDs. There's always eBay!

I totally agree with you. Those covers are really neat to me. They're actually kind of uncomfortable because of the direct eye contact with the viewer and just how young and childish her face is. She looked so unglamorous but in the greatest way.

SES was one of those old-school kpop groups that makes me feel like a total hipster cuz I knew them at all, haha Back in MY day, Kpop meant Clon, SES, H.O.T, and Lee Jung Hyun.

I love the ayu-mi-x covers. It's not that she looks young and unglamorous (although that's part of it), it's that she looks so VULNERABLE. And like she's totally cool with you seeing that. I miss when ayu seemed more confident in her uncertainty, more extroverted about her introversion, more open about her shyness. She was awkward and strange and she OWNED it. She's at her best when she's not trying to hide that awkwardness and vulnerability. I love videos like Last minute because of that - yes it's a big floofy dress, but in the face and in her movements she's just BEING, she's not trying to look impressive. The big floofy dress is the only "I have to look nice for the audience" thing but she leaves an impression IN SPITE of the fancy clothes, not because of them.

Oh ayu lol. She would make a great performer at the Olympics, especially with the nature of her music. But only if her vocals were on point. And that's a risk I think no one wants to take ATM.

I agree with the top 2 as well, also Mr. Children. Get the boy bands (not rock bands), girl bands, voicaloids, anisong singers and idols outta there. This is a global event. Japan better show musical integrity. Have utada perform and then subsequently make her drop two or three albums.
I had no idea who golden bomber was but what kind of Milli Vanili realness. They apparently don't play their own music but theyre popular? That's the pits. It would be like if you stuck Namie's face on something but someone like… Hiromi sang instead. Queen of music.

I personally agree with this, not hating or what but I thought groups, vocaloids and anisong singers wouldn't work well for this occasion.

If Ayu perform, I want another song like Born to Be... or just perform Born to Be..., it's sounds so sporting events lol

What do you guys think of the song Boys and Girls? I feel like it's one of her most famous songs.

I don't hate it but no matter what, I can't seem to get real into it. I liked the acoustic orchestra version of it decently.

What kills me is that they stopped the acoustic orchestra albums after I am... I would have loved an AOA of RAINBOW. Ayumix 5, which focused on songs from RAINBOW, only had trance, megamix, and eurobeat. Not Acoustic Orchestra. I would have loved to hear orchestra versions of heartplace, real me, Dolls, WE WISH, Rainbow, Hanabi, July 1st, Free & Easy, Pretty much just the whole album, and yes I know we now have an orchestra version of Hanabi, but it took over 10 years.

I personally never got into the song, but its live version is fun especially the AT05 / AT07 one because it's so festive.

There is an Acoustic Orchestra version of HANABI on ayu-mi-x 7 But yeah, I'd love to have an AO ver. of all her songs, that's the only type of remix I stan for :c

I was going around youtube and found some videos of a girl singing some live Ayu songs on karaoke, but the things is, the instrumental is EXACTLY as it is on the DVD, as it's like someone took out Ayu's voice and only left the original sound.






Does anyone know what kind of karaoke/program is this?
