Past time we made a new one
![]() Last topic was Ivy and Gloria, and I gotta say Ivy >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gloria |

I like both. :3 but..............
Ivy is one of my favorites. |

Ivy really was my jam. I really connected with the lyrics and I felt that midtempo.
It's in my top 5, but unlike the other 4 songs that can change, Ivy is a permanent top 5. |

Ivy isn't too terrible, but her voice is so shaky and it irks me. So I have Story to replace it ♡

^ I kinda get what you mean... If it had came out by 2008~2010 I would have hated it, but I guess after a few songs and lives singing that way, I grew used to it

I hated Ivy at first, it sounded so repetitive with all those "mashita" in the verses... I was really mad at that song lol But then, and fortunately, I came to appreciate its beauty and uniqueness.

Ivy has amazing lyrics. When Walk came out, I knew I'd love it because the lyrics were kinda in the same vein.

If you can't appreciate Gloria's ability to perfectly encapsulate the emotion of "optimism" then there is no hope for you tbh.
Lyrics are always secondary to the music itself for me. The magic of music is that it has the ability to transmit an emotional feeling into your chest, through sound alone. You don't need words to communicate a message; in that case, you're telling the listener what to feel. Just make them feel. If you take away the storyline and remove the crutch of words that aid in painting a third party's experience, and you're still able to feel that emotion, to feel the aftermath of some sort of experience as if it were your own, that's when you know it's a good piece of music. Learn to listen with your heart and not your brain. Develop a sense for sound. It's the difference between reading a movie's synopsis, and watching the film itself. tbh lyrics have also got a secondary place for me since I started listening to JPop and... well, not understanding lyrics. Nowadays sometimes I will listen to a whole album in English
That said, I do like Gloria but it just doesn't grab my attention as Ivy does. It's not bad, it's just not remarkable for my taste. Last edited by Gustavopc; 25th September 2015 at 04:32 AM. |

I almost always lisen to the song first and look for lyric translation later so I guess lyrics are secondary for me as well still I am quoting Gustavopc on this one:

I love Ivy. One of my favourites from Love Again. Now Autumn is coming, I've started playing it again. It's a real Autumn/Winter song for me. And Walk!
![]() Lots of the songs on LOVE again are good, they just got lost in the album for me. I'd quite like to mix up LOVE again, CoLOURS, A ONE and SIXXXXXX into two or three good albums in a kind of MY STORY style I think. I like Gloria too but I think it may have had a chance to shine better after The Show Must Go On for example. I also think LOVE again suffers from not having live performances of lots of the songs so it is easier to forget the album. Also, the Maro drama PVs taint the abum somewhat >.< |

To be honest, even with the lyrics I still can't comprehend the love that fans have for it. I think I may just have too different tastes compared to the fandom, though, because I also dislike evolution/letter/call and some other songs and LOVE Rock'n'Roll Circus xD

I like Gloria and the mellotron (?) reminds me of Strawberry Fields Forever, which is a good thing in my book.

Well I agree that the first impression of a song for me is definitely how it sounds, so yes, feeling the music. Especially when it's of a language that I don't understand. However, upon reading the lyrics, they really make me appreciate the songs more.

Gloria is such a glorious song lol that is the reason why I don't regret to have my Love Again album

That melotron intro to Gloria is the only reason I remember that song in the context of a bunch of other ayu ballads, lol... I find the lyrics fascinating from a psychological perspective but aside from those two things I find it wholly unremarkable. It's the kind of song that makes me wish I understood Japanese on-the-fly more than I do, cuz then it might click with me more.
"Ivy" is melodically & structurally a bit more memorable, but i don't think it's anything special either... I don't skip it when it comes on, but there isn't much to make me want to listen to it more than other semi-symphonic Yuta Nakano ballads like "Pray," "how beautiful you are," or "beloved" or something. Honestly I sometimes wonder if Yuta Nakano's computer died and he lost all his production software, presets, and samples sometime in 2011...

^a Bell had a similar buildup feels like that in Story I believe, that's why it sounds so great to pair those!
