That is very clearly the connotation of his post in the original Japanese. I don't even know how that would be delusional? You don't use the wording that he did towards a friend in Japan. What it honestly reads as is they've had some kind of relationship, not sure the extent, and he was left kind of hanging wanting more. As Yukari said, it reads as desperate and pleading.

This is my attempt at a more contextual translation (most translations just translate things too literally and lose the context of the language):

"For me, I...... I want to embrace Ayu so much that I could die. Please, understand my feelings. I love you. No matter what, I just want to see you. Please don't run away from me, it's not fair. I want to embrace you right now. I love you."

He uses "Ai" throughout, rather than "suki". Normally, ai would only be reserved for a blood relative connection or a boyfriend/girlfriend; it's considered a pretty heavy and serious thing to say and usually isn't used lightly. Suki is used for more friendship based relationships and is considered a lighter term. So that taken altogether with the context....yeah, my opinion is they either have had something together or he has unrequited feelings for her.

I find the whole thing very cute though and I'm sure Ayu face-palmed hard. I know I would have, lol. And I would definitely be getting questioned hardcore by all my friends in Japan about what our relationship was, how long we've been going out for, etc etc.

As for him being gay. Maybe he goes both ways? If it's true, I honestly like the matchup of them.

I didn't really know about the importance of "愛してる" until a few years ago (where I read online), so I'm actually shocked that he used that (twice) in that tweet. As far as I know, that phrase mostly can be heard during weddings, not in daily lives.

I think it's cute as well, at the same time I know the public would definitely feel so awkward with his tweet, cuz now they really wonder if he has serious feeling towards ayu .

I always thought of them as she was the mom and he was the kid/student.
I dont think there is a big age difference but I felt like she considered him her little brother and she wanted to take him places.

Now if he fell in love with her, thats a different story altogether and kinda fits into a warped Japanese culture. lol
