I don't know how to describe this but the MILLENIUM MIX sounds much weaker than the Album Mix; I feel this most noticeably in the instrumental part following the line 未来には期待出来るのか分からずに. the percussions, at least, sound noticeably less ...pronounced.

I hope the remaster for this release sounds noticeable to my amateur ears, like the difference between the original mixes and the remaster for A BEST 2. meanwhile, even with headphones on, I couldn't tell the difference between the 2001 A BEST and the 15th Anniversary A BEST

Same! The balance and dynamics are way better, so the sound is much clearer and cleaner...

I'm pretty confident with the quality of my headphones, so ......it must be my hearing then how lucky you are for being able to notice the difference!

To me all of the remastered tracks sound about the same as the original releases when it comes to Ayu. Remastering recordings from the late 90s or 2000s won't provide much improvement. Most of the time remastering is about analogue and digital. Taking old recordings from the vinyl analogue era and giving them a new high quality 21st century digital remaster. But since the term "original master tapes" was used perhaps it is not a 100% digital recording and master. Maybe digital tape was used for the master? It's hard to know.
The best thing that they could do to her music is increase the dynamic range. But they have not done that on previous remasters so I don't have high hopes for this one.

Really? I was curious to get A BEST 2 15th anni for the remaster

For me I didn't notice the A BEST 2 remaster but A COMPLETE remaster was really significant to me

don't take my word for it though, other people could clearly notice the A BEST–A BEST 15th Anniversary difference, so go for it!

as for A COMPLETE, yes, in my case I could clearly sense the remaster as well as I do with A BEST 2. the tracks are "louder" too in both cases.

Yeah! I really love the vibe of the album. And it is truly distinct from the first album, which is sometimes hard to do.

It also makes sense to me that A Song For Xx was skipped over. It really wasn't until Loveappears that she really became "Ayumi Hamasaki", the huge, mega superstar.
Were you a fan during that time? Do you remember what the atmosphere with fans was like during the release? I only became a fan after UNITE!.

Nope, you've got me beat! I didn't start listening to Ayu until early '04.

I am a fan from A BEST era.
During year 2001, her popularity spread not only in japan, but also all over the world. I mostly get more of her album at Malaysia. I guess in Japan, it's almost impossible not to hear about Ayu during year of 2000. She was working like crazy. Maximum exposure at ads, CM, billboard, charts, merchandise. Everything she touched became gold. Even KOSE brand lipstick sales soared when she became the spokesperson.

But I am amazed to still find a few of her original CD at Pontianak, a small town at West Borneo. The rest are bootleg VCDs.

I got her LOVEppears album from my Taiwan Cousin, though.

And downloaded her new releases, videos through dial ups 64kbps streaming.
What an era.

You're so knowledgeable about her career I would have thought you were a fan since Nothing from Nothing, haha!

haha, no I was just that obsessed. I was living in Japan in the mid-90s, so I saw Namie's very early career, but not Ayu's.
