I'm not really surprised with Orange Range's rankings. "Hana" was all you could hear echoing through the streets of Tokyo for a month. It was like people couldn't get enough of it -- and I admit I love the song very much. But it was also the theme for an upcoming movie that had lots of buzz about it. Like someone else said, I think that helps alot. A tie-in like that provides double exposure.
SMAP's "Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana" is kind of old now, and you still hear it all the time. Last month there was a big ceremony on TV and a group of... I don't want to exaggerate, but I believe it was 1000+ people singing a choral arrangement of it on a big field. It was insane.
