Sharing of Foreign MP3s

Is it illegal to share foreign MP3s?...cuz i know theres the RIAA...but the A stands for America, so could they still get me for sharing JPOP or KPOP?..cuz one of the reasons im not posting the password for the FTP for everyone to see is because i dont wanna get caught or anything..o_o

America isn't the only country to have copyright infringement laws.

You're joking, right? There have been laws against copyright infringement way before mp3s came along.

The RIAA can't get you for it, but the RIAJ do look at p2p programs sometimes... they're not vultures like the RIAA though (i mean, japan has had cd rental for ages and people made MD or cassette copies, but their market never really suffered much because of that). I don't know if the RIAJ check any english-language forums though, and i doubt it since overall we're a VERY small part of their business.

Dude, I didn't just mean mp3s. I meant things in general.

Just like the A in RIAA means 'America,' was the 'J' in RIAJ your first clue that it meant Japan?

The reason it became a big deal a few years ago, is because mp3s weren't big until a few years ago.

Man, the amount of naivete here is so overwhelming.

You don't have to be "intelligent." Just think. Use your brain. Logic is your friend.

Don't share any J-mp3s on WinMX now! There RIAJ will constantly IM you with a warning message saying that you violated artists' rights of their works (also with a URL http://www.riaj.or.jp/piracy/winmx/), and I just received a dozen from a user named white snake a few moments ago; that person queued all my files that they considered illegal for sharing and can even tell your IP address...

Ya, well, I think they just randomly chose that person? I'm not sure, but I heard about that also.

From all of the downloading music illegally, I don't think it will ever be put to a stop, even with all of these celebrities on commercials saying "It hurts to download our stuff," and such.

Japan still has rental shops and are still popular. I know a lot of friends that copy music in Japan. People aren't that open about it, but they do.

Yeah, probably. At least for a little while. But i'd keep it private just cuz you only allow 10 users per site... makes sure that people who want the mp3s more are more likely to get in, instead of more casual browsers.
