The best Japanese Popular album of this year so far definitely goes to Nakashima Mika's "MUSIC".

It is seriously an amazing collection of very different songs. I love every single piece to death and there isn't one thing not to like about it... besides the arrangment in which the songs were put. The other must get album I think is definitely Rie fu's self titled debut album. It is a very relaxing acoustic-piano mix of songs which is really refreshing. It's nothing super unique but the music is top notch and Rie fu has great English pronounciation and her lyrics are awesome. The music is just beautiful and relaxing overall.

Some other must gets would probably be:
w-inds. - ageha
Namie Amuro - Queen Of Hip-Pop
and possibly Koda Kumi's "secret".

Now that I think about it... w-inds.' "ageha" is an amazing album. If you've been an older fan you might be a little bit dissapointed since the songs are a lot different then what you've hear from "Prime Of Life" or "System Of Alive". However Keita's singing has improved A LOT and is really top notch now. Always room for improvement but he really has gotten better. This album alone is worth it for the singles because they are really TRULY that AMAZING. I have never liked boy-"bands" but w-inds. really is something special and they offer a lot of amazing songs. If an album is too much pick up their "Shiki" single because you get the amazing song "Shiki" and possibly one of my favorite ballads EVER "Eien no Tochuu". It seriously is a heart-rippling piece. LOVE IT TO DEATH! Great album!

Lastly I have got to mention at least 10 MUST HAVE singles of the year so far:

10. AI - Story

AI has really proven her musical talent this year. This single "Story" is possibly one of the best ballads I have heard in Japanese Pop in a LONG time and I love everything about this song especially the chorus. AI's vocals really REALLY shine here and I have never seen her sing so sincerely and with so much love and energy. This song truly brings tears to my eyes somethings. It's a very simple piano piece but AI's vocals are truly what shines here and she takes this song to the top. This is WITHOUT A DOUBT AI's BEST SONG EVER. When I first heard of AI she was the annoying rapping chick who "rapped" with SUITE CHIC. But now she has proven herself as an artist. The consistent sales of this single also prove that good music is still being bought. Amazing piece indeed. MUST BUY.

09. w-inds. - Yume no Bashou e

Okay your probably thinking this poppy dance song over an awesome ballad? COMON' but seriously this song is song FUN! I totally love everything about it. I think the thing that keeps me coming back to Japanese Pop is the fact that they are still able to make really fun and REFRESHING Pop music over and over with really good results. The rapping is sort of cheesy but it fits with the song and Keita's voice shines here too. You definitely need a good fun Pop song every once in awhile and I really recommend this one. The B-side also is a really nice laid back number titled "Perfect Day", pick this one up also if you decide not to get "ageha".

08. Hirahara Ayaka - Eternally

Hirahara Ayaka is definitely one of my favorite new artist and she's almost like the new Onitsuka for me... just without the darkness hahaha if you get what I mean. Anyways "Eternally" is another breathtaking ballad, but isn't that what you always expect from Ayaka? She definitely doesn't fail in this one and her vocal performance is RIGHT ON. This song is incredibly soothing and one of the best ballads in the longest time. Pick up her album "The Voice" as well, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

07. YUI - feel my soul & Tomorrow's way

Well most people know I'm a HUGE fan of Michelle Branch and if you like her or Acoustic Pop music your going to LOVE YUI. She is definitely one of my favorite debut artist of this year. Both of her singles so far have been AMAZING. "feel my soul" is awesome but she really shines on "Tomorrow's way". The coupling track "Last Train" on her second single is GORGEOUS as well. Highly recommend both singles. Their really relaxing to chill and listen to or just to sing along. She's really amazing and only 15 I think. Such a talented youngster, I really can't wait for her debut album.

06. Crystal Kay - Koi ni Ochitara

Wow this year has a lot of awesome ballads and Crystal Kay's is possbily one of the best of the year. LOL I say that a lot but all these ballads are really truly AWESOME. This is a poppy ballad and another what I would call a "refreshing song". It's truly beautiful and I think this is possibly Kay's best piece TO DATE. I love everything about it, it's just plain beautiful. There's nothing that really makes it stand out but it's simplicity makes it truly beautiful and her vocals really shine. You won't be disappointed TRUST ME. HER BEST SINGLE EVER. LOVING IT! This even rocks "Kiss" which was an awesome R&B ballad I might add.

05. BENNIE K - Dreamland

I couldn't decide which one was better Ketsumeishi's "Sakura" or this AWESOME POP SONG. This is where BENNIE K TRULY SHINES. This is the new Coca Cola theme in Japan and it's just a SUPER CRAZY FUNKY AND FUN POP SONG! I love it to pieces and YUKI's vocals KICK ASS as usual. CICO could use some help in her rapping but still it adds to the fun and FUNKINESS of this track. AWESOME SINGLE. Their just AWESOME. I recommend their single "Sunrise" as well, it's even better than this one and this one is HARD TO TOP. Another "refreshing" Pop song.

04. Ketsumeishi - Sakura

Ah what songs about Sakura blossoms DON'T SELL? But seriously this single is worth all the praise it's getting. This song is really truly just awesome and really funky. I have never been a big fan of groups like Ketsumeishi but "Sakura" is truly a catchy and just plain beautiful song. If you've seen the PV it'll really make you like this song since that's how I first heard it and I was hooked from the start. I really love the chorus as well. A overall awesome piece.

03. K - over...

Now it comes down the the THREE BEST SINGLES of the year SO FAR. Okay now here is possibly the best ballad I have heard in the LONGEST time. K is not a new artist but a new one to the Japanese world and he is totally kicking arse. This is his debut single and it is a simple but GORGEOUS piano piece and his vocals ARE SERIOUSLY HEAVENLY. I have never been so hooked on a man's voice like I am with K. Everything about this piece is stunning and the coupled songs on the single are JUST AS GORGEOUS. GET THIS F-ING SINGLE NOW. GET IT NOW. GET IT NOW. IT IS AMAZING. STUNNING. It'll leave you speechless. It may seem like a typical ballad to some... sounds like a very typical Korean Pop ballad but K's vocals are truly TRULY to die for. Plus his Brian McKnight cover is really REALLY good too.

02. Younha - Houki Boushi

Oh my lord this could possibly be one of the most catchy and addicting songs EVER. Younha is seriously an amazing artist, she debuted this year and I'm sure all of you know about her now. She does piano based pop tunes which are bound to have you singing and of course buying her CDs. Her debut album "Go! Younha" has been postponed but while your waiting pick this up, you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. The B-side track titled "Ashita, Tenki ni Nare" is JUST AS GOOD AS Houki Boushi and makes the single all the more worth it. GET THIS NOW!!! GET IT NOW!!!! Younha also has great depth to her voice too which I absolutely LOVE. GET IT NOW! YOU HEAR?!?!

01. Hamasaki Ayumi - STEP you/is this LOVE?

LOL Big surprise... I'm pretty sure your all going oh what a surprise you freaking LAMO Ayu fan-girl. I love Ayu and all but really this single has MADE THE YEAR. If you thought "Houki Boushi" was catchy "STEP you" will have you singing for weeks. I am STILL not sick of this single since the day I got it. The PVs are also TOP NOTCH, it's worth it JUST FOR THE PVS. I'm pretty sure you all know about this single now and probably own it as well but truly this is my favorite single of the year, and that's coming from someone who is not just favoring Ayu, I really think this is an awesome AWESOME single and I have not liked a single this much from Ayumi in the longest time not since "Moments" came out and that was months and months ago. GET THIS NOW IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT YET!

OMG I TOTALLY FORGOT TO PUT Tackey & Tsubasa's "Kamen/Mirai Koukai" in the best singles of the year! GET THIS ONE TOO! It's probably in my TOP3. The Arrangment in Kamen is seriously the most amazing I have heard for a dance tune. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THE ARRANGEMENT!! It's an awesome awesome pop dance tune that'll get stuck in your head as well. PLUS THE PV IS GORGEOUS. IT'S STUNNING BUY BUY BUY!!

The only Japanese album released this year that I was motivated enough to buy was Mika Nakashima's 'MUSIC'.

Though Rie Fu's debut self titled album had alot of great music too, excellent if you're into acoustic guitar music.

As for singles, my picks are:

Ooh yeahh add Def Tech to my list too.

I never thought they were going to be good, I thought it was another "ORANGE RANGE" clone. But they really make some awesome tunes. Both of their albums rock, I really really like Lokahi Lani. It's a really nice mini album.

Btw in Phantoma's list FANTASTIPO is an awesome buy as well. Catchy and totally fun song. I can't wait to get the movie DVD as well. D-51's "NO MORE CRY" is good too but it gets really old FAST... and the repeated "NO MORE CRY" gets BEYOND ANNOYING.

I recommend Shibasaki Kou's "Glitter" as well. It's a fun song and definitely something new and refreshing, it's like the carnival but without the scary clowns. You'll get what I'm talking about if you've seen the PV.

and of course "fairyland cw/ alterna" MUST HAVE. But I'm sure you knew that hehe...
