Really? I've heard of it for the first time. I'd like to hear the opinions of other English speakers about this.
Both "dear" and "beloved" can be used for many kinds of relationships. I think "beloved" denotes a stronger, deeper attachment than "dear" does.

I would have to agree, my dad calls me "Deer" so its not as powerful as "beloved" can be. At least in this sense.
