Women Fronted Bands or "Lady Metal"

Anyone here fans of bands such as Lacuna Coil, Nightwish or Within Temptation? If you are, I've just discovered a few bands I'd like to recommend to you if not, read on and you may be inspired to go and download yourself a few tracks!

Not so much a fan of Lacuna Coil more of the latter, my favourites, Nightwish and most definately the amazing Within Temptation.

Nightwish is fronted by the stunning 'operatic' singer, Tarja Turunnen, and Within Temptation fronted by flawless songstress, Sharon Den Adel. Both bands have a somewhat similar sound, the only difference being the male vocalist in Nightwish, both bands, are orchestral metal sometimes known as "Doom" or "Gothic Symphony" music. If you like your big orchestras with violins, cellos, violas, flutes and harps and you also like your full on metal bands with guitar, drums and synths you need some Lady Metal in your life. XD

Geez, I sound like a commercial!

Anyways, here are some reccomendations from both the bands:

Nightwish:

01 Nemo
02 I Wish I Had An Angel
03 Creek Mary's Blood
04 Ghost Love Score
05 Phantom of the Opera
06 Bless the child
07 The Siren
08 End of the World
09 Forever yours

Within Temptation:

01 Mother Earth
02 Running up that hill (Kate Bush cover)
03 Ice Queen
04 Our Farewell
05 Jillian (I'd Give My heart)
06 Angels
07 Stand My Ground
08 Caged
09 Memories

All great songs, very dramatic sounding, kind of depressing, but hey. XD

Moving on, I needed more bands like these so I looked on amazon today at some customer list things and I searched for the reccomended bands on DC++ and there are some great, and rather interesting bands.

The first being, 'The Sins Of Thy Beloved' they use the whole 'Beauty and the beast' vocal thing with the growling, scary, guy and the beutiful, melodic, female bouncing off each other. The band 'Tristania' also do this but Sins of Thy Beloved are the better of the two. These two bands are heavier than Nightwish and Within Temptation for those who like harder gothic metal.

Ambeon, Leave's Eyes, and Delight are very smilar to Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Within Temptation, very pretty songs. I might post some samples at another time but I just thought I'd share my finds with you all, see if you like them...and of course...if you know of any other really good female fronted bands feel free to share! =P

yeah, i guess they are a bit sad. songs of deception and loss. but they are soo good!

I'm also a fan of these bands, but i wouldnt classify their sound as 'doom' or orchestral metal or symphonic metal maybe..
I guess the songs from WT's first album are doom, but lately WT sound more popish, with heavy metal guitars and sharon's flawless voice (it really is!)

Nightwish is more like power metal, i guess..
They say themself that they're influenced by bands like halloween and iron maiden.

Most of the songs you list are from the two lates albums of both bands.
The sound of nightwish's first album is totaly different from their new stuff!

I'd also recommend these:

-Nightwish
Angels fall first
The Carpenter
Stargazers
Erämaajärvi
wishmaster

-Within Temptation
Deep within
Grace
Candles
The dance
Deciever of fools

I really dont know any other bands with female vocals, besides the ones you mention..

I'm a Nightwish fan, but I've only recently started to search for more bands with metal sound/female vocals.

I love Nightwish's last two albums, they're getting better and better. Ghost Love Score was the highlight of Once.

I like a few Nightwish tracks here and there.
Actually, I found their music tired a bit too quickly for me.
Her vocals are fantastic though, and Nemo is the best!

Maybe you'd like Faith and the Muse as well?

All great bands listed so far. I saw Leave's Eyes mentioned, but not Theatre of Tragedy, the band Liv Krisitine sang for before forming Leave's Eyes. She is an excellent singer. She also sings on some of Cradle of Filth's songs. I also didn't see Arch Enemy mentioned. They are a female-fronted melodic death metal band that is very good.

Nightwish, a Finnish metal band popular the world over, have in effect sacked the lead singer, Tarja Turunen.

On Saturday, the four other members of the group posted an open letter addressed to Ms Turunen on the band's website, saying she would have to go.

Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player who has written most of Nightwish's songs, said in the letter that Ms Turunen had concentrated on business at the expense of music and friendship.
This makes me very sad. I love Nightwish and Tarja's voice. I can't feeling that the next vocalist will be a disappointment. It's also sad to hear that the relationship between her and the rest of the band has been strained.

I guess this kind of explains why they released their greatest hits album recently.

I had no idea that there was such a problem between Tarja and the rest of the band I was shocked when I heard the news. Some people saw it coming, but I never followed the band *that* closely outside the music they produced. I'm so sad to have Tarja go.. I loved her voice (though she changed her singing style for the last 2 albums which I wasn't too fond of...) I think the next vocalist will be a disappointment, too. Ah well, the first 3 Nightwish albums will always be my favorites~ I wonder how people will react to the new singer...

I LOVE Sins of thy beloved !!! Best Song= Pandemonium !! Leaves Eyes Rock too a lot them better than Theatre of Tragedy.. mainly bc I didn't like Theatre of Tragedy at all.

Lacuna Coil usually have good singles but the rest of the album sucks in my opinion. Nightwish are the bomb as are Within Temptation !! They're definetly better than all other female fronted bands.

What about Arch Enemy?
