I am not totally against the use of power chords. When used in moderation they are okay. But so many bands out now use them to death. They can create an interesting effect especially in heavy music. For instance if every guitarist started using artificial harmonics (pinch harmonics) constantly, it would become like power chords. An overused technique. The technique in modern rock that annoys me right now is this whole thing where the guitarist plays 5 or 6 notes then rests for two beats and plays the same 5 or 6 notes again, and then repeats it through the whole song (with the exception of the chorus of course). Practically every band out now is using that one to death.
