hahaha yeah I've been searching for hours after hearing Pride the first time, but the only line in the lyrics I could remember (and even that took me some time) was crucify (<--- tada). and there was my mistake, since it was crucified and not crucify so I couldnt find it nowhere XD

I was sure the beat did come from somewhere, so I'm not surprised. She wrote the lyrics, so we should be happy that it was original on her part, she probably has never heard the other song before.

[QUOTE=voltron]So I was showing my boyfriend the video for Pride and, like many others, he said the song sounded so familiar. It took him a while, but he got the song. It was a one-hit-wonder from the 90s called Army of Lovers, and the song was called "Crucified." The chords and notes of the chorus are almost identical.

I remember that song and the weird video. I was thinking the same thing when I heard Pride

AHA! I knew it! This is what I wrote in the Opinions on B&D/Pride thread after I listened to Pride.

okay.. the begining sounds very much like part of pride. O.O;; although.. this song isn't very good the rest of it.. I deffinatly like how pride sounds in the part thats similar.
.. o.O;; it's scary you can actually sing pride in that part along with it..
ah well, maybe the composer is the same composer?.. and asked Ayu and she liked how it sounded but wanted it a little different?

you guys have really good hearing cause I don't hear the resemblance. The two choruses sound pretty different to me. The chorus of crucified is pretty catchy though while the chorus of pride is a litte harder to remember. When I first heard pride, the piano intro reminded of a song I've heard before. Now that I've listened to crucifed, I can say it's not the song I was thinking of, like I said, I don't hear the resemblance. Could be classical Beethoven or some "old due who died a hundred years ago".

This type of thing happens often and usually not on purpose - a composer may come up with something and then someone tells them it has the same exact melody or chords from another song, so...

you can't blame Ayu. And if Pride does take excerpts from crucified, wouldn't in say so in the booklet? Just like with the song "Duty"?

Well, it's not just similar. I think it is pretty obvious that GEO ripped the melody for Pride from this song. You can sing the lyrics to Pride over the lyrics to Crucified and it all fits - in order for that to happen, it would have to be an extreme coincidence. However it is completely not Ayu's fault. I doubt she has ever heard this song or even heard of the group. (I hadn't)

Did anyone suggest that maybe they allowed ayu to use their music alike-ness crap?
Kinda like when an artist brings back an old song?
I Love rock and roll - Britney Spears? etc.

People jump to conclusions too much today. Freaking annoying.

I'm just waiting for someone to yell at you and say this is another one of those copy threads
It proabably already happened for all i know.

And yes, the song sounds kinda like Ayu's PRIDE, but think about it, it's quite different.
That goes to those who jump to conclusions and start hating/getting angry at ayu and crap.

I HATE that above all.

And dreamland's right.

Everyone has gotta find someone else to blame these days

Ryoko is also correct.
A composer may think of a nice tune, and it turns out they had heard it before, and not knowing it, they use it again.

Ok the song is sort of similar. It's not anything to get all worked up over. Plus Pride sounds ten times better then that anyway.

yeah, when i first heard it i was like, "this sounds like the anastasia song"

this song, "crucified" is not as good as ayu's, it's just terrible

i love Pride so much, i dont care if it did come from this or anything, it's different in it's own way and i love it.

I do think GEO probably did this by accident. It's an old enough song that it's likely GEO probably heard it ages ago and had the melody in his head for a long time. Tori Amos did the same thing with her song "hey Jupiter"... it sounds JUST like prince's "Purple Rain", and it was a total accident on her part. It happens with songwriters sometimes.

Sometimes a singer WILL write a song and by coincidence it'll sound like another song. The Rolling Stones' "Anybody Seen My Baby" has a melody in the chorus that's exactly the same as k.d. lang's "Constant Craving", and they had never heard the song before... when they heard the resemblance though, they decided to give k.d. lang a writing credit in their album and some of the royalties for the song. Very grown-up thing to do on their part, i think.

Everyone should know that if it has to do with Sweetbox than its more than likely going to be a sample/remake. That's almost a fact.
