i knew her when i was 14 years old, everyone was talking about her back then but i didn't really pay much attention, i was like "oh whatever, another jpop things AGAIN" the i saw the cover of Loveppears, ohh hell yeah !! i bought it but never listened to it until someday later my cousin came and played Boys & Girls, i told him "where did you get that song, it's awesome!!" and he said "that was your cd idiot !" and since then i become a die-hard fan

Ok.. I used to HATE HATE HATE her. It started with Memorial Address CD only version. I thought the songs were horribly bland and formulaic. But its because I was a hardcore-buy-everything-with-her-name-on-it Utada fan. Then Forgiveness grew on me after a year. Followed by No Way To Say. Then I forgot bout Ayu until STEP YOU. STEP YOU made me an obsessor.

STEP you did me in too! I totally ignored her works ever since I thought A Song for XX was rubbish.

I still think so now (I'm sorry but not too much a fan of the album), but I've tried to catch up on everything else after that.

I was always interested since the beggining, but there was a point when I couldn't stand her music, it lasted about a week, then I heard 'HANABI', 'ourselves' and 'Because of You', I fell in love yet again

I knew who she was, because my friend is a big Ayu fan. But I wasn't interested enough. one day on this site I keep hearing "Ayumi Hamasaki" and decided to check the songs out. Now I love her

haha. i was NEVER EVER an ayu hater. i just never thought much a her back when i just saw the LOVEppears cover. i post the details in here.

it was A-best that got me hook. when the first song'a song for xx' was played, i like it a lot. maybe that's why when i bought 'a song for xx' album, it does not dissappoint me that much. and i'm proud to say 'a song for xx' still remains as my fav song.

I love her from the first time I've heard the first word of Depend on you lyrics in Svenson & Gielen remix - "mezashite". I fell in love with their voice immediately.

I admit that I used to not like her but that was WAYY in the beginning. I decided to buy a copy of A Song for XX to give her a real chance and I'm glad I did because I fell in love with the album. Loved her since. ^_^

Heh me too Akurei! I didn't hate her but had a bad impression of her (I thought she was just a well-packaged singing robot). Then I saw her RAINBOW album and got tempted into buying it and from there I just continued to get her CDs (MY STORY when it was released, followed by I am.. etc)

It was love at first listen for me.

What's funny was that my discovering her music was completely random. I just heard someone else on an unrelated forum raving about her, posting pictures of her, etc. Got bored one day and looked up her name, downloaded the "SURREAL" PV and a bunch of other songs, and I just fell in love, even though I'd never been exposed to J-pop.

The first song of hers I heard was moments. It diden't get me hooked, but interested. Then I heard some remixes. And then I heard "M" and Fly high and evolution. I was hooked. I don't know why, but I mostly liked her most popular songs, even before I knew they were hits.

I've liked Ayu's music ever since I heard her voice, but even then I thought it was a bit weird. I've forgotten about that, though.

Me and my friend had that 'comparing music queens' (Sammi Cheng vs Ayu) attitude when we were 13, so I hated Ayu and he hated Sammi.
The next year, I hosted a Japanese exchange student and coincidentally, he brought over Ayu's 'new' single as a gift: 'Voyage'. That song made me a fan and then I gradually forgot about Sammi.
Ironically, my friend hated Ayu when I became a fan.
