Startin' PV discussion

I HATE THIS PV!!! I'm really dissapointed. It's mix of Utada Hikaru "Wait & See", Britney Spears "Toxic", Holyn Pharel "Nude West" and Kill Bill movie. Screenplay of this PV is very chaotic and don't have any deeper meaning - only colorful pictures stick together in whole. Special effects r very cheap and unnatural. I though AYU working with professionals and those effects looks like made by amateur without taste and imagination. For ex. fire doesn't looks like real fire - only as pseudo-fire from old type 2D computer game - scenes with motor bike looks exactly the same. Btw AYU trying to be sexy showing her belly? She looks only like cheap copy of Britney Spears - I didn't suppose she can fall so low... however by some of her latest works it's good visable she's become commercial more and more...

(I do think hitomi is sexier in the JG PV than ayu in Startin' so I wasn't obviously talking about that). I brought the issue about who looked sexier when comparing the covers of Lp and LL though. But I never said you mentioned hitomi was sexier than Ayu. That's why I said hitomi looked sexier and cooler in Japanese Girl, not because I tought you said hitomi was sexier.

Actually... She was more so before. Now it seems like she's more free to choose her own work-partners, adn to experiment more. And I think everyone should remember that what's considered "commercial" and "sex appealing" in Japan is different from US and Europe. Most "commericial idols" are trying to be cute and innocent rather than sexy. Sexy seems to be the "mature" look of Japan.

I know being commercial doesn't mean the same in Japan as in US or EU however globally being commercial means be similar to artificial idols of international music scene. What AYU doing now it's good way to lost her foreign fans who like her because he wasn't similar to local and popular idols they know. Her japanese fans seems to be confused her changes. If she'll be continue those experiments she'll lost her popularity because those all extremly changes show she don't know who she really is and what she want. After all those years she don't know what she want present by her person? If yes, then it's really sad. I'm trying to don't criticize her and value so much - at least not yet, but if she'll be continue this way will be end of her career. It seems that she feel now too much self-confident and probably though that fans accept all of her "changes". I'm not so sure about it

And if she seems to be more free... then the best way to say it is: she can be free but not so free - she can do anything she want - and go nowhere (sounds little like everywhere nowhere LOL)

Seriously, I think this is how Ayu tried to explain in one of her recent articles. She's free to do whatever she wants.
Let her be.
Ayu should definitely do an alterna type PV about her fans.

Some people said that the part ayu appears "rubbing" with other people in the Startin' video looked disgusting. In JAPANESE GIRL hitomi rubs with those 2 girls but I haven't seem the same ppl mentioning it looked disgusting back then. That's where i made my comparison: "if hitomi can be daring, why can't ayu?", kinda the point I tried to get at at that post.

I WOULD SO BE DOWN FOR THAT. A PV about her lunatic fans. Ayu fans are seriously some of most "out of control" group of fans I have seen in music. There is ALWAYS something to bicker about within our fan base for some sad reason.

You people take the PV so seriously. The over-acting is so obviously parodying. The fact that it looks like so many things must be on purpose. And once again, a plot? Looking for things that aren't there maybe? It's just to promote a song. Why does something Ayu have to have meaning?

It's colourful, funny, and I like the song. Great PV for the win!

I LOVE THE PV! I think it's her best one yet. Too bad I don't like the song only the Chorus sounds good to me. Maybe because I don't like her vocals or which they could be louder during the Verse.


And I think Ayumi looks nice in that Pink Outfit.

^Yup, I absolutely agree! Startin' is kind of a breakthrough PV for Ayu! I mean I really didn't recognise it was Ayu at all! It's a really good reinvention for her and it shows that she's moving much faster than what people were expecting! Startin' itself has refreshing and new composition and with this new presentation of a PV, it really marks a great start to the year of 2006!

It's great to have a mixture of flashy PVs and story-tied PVs! And I think Ayu has done a great job in this. I don't see a problem with the sexy issue people have mentioned! She IS sexy and I think the PV shows this side of Ayu BEAUTIFULLY!

Yeah, the PV is obviously a parody. Ayu would never do such PV otherwise. Well, even knowing it's a parody, I didn't like it that much. It's okay, but she has many better PVs. I liked the song more, but it's not my favorite either. Maybe it's just beacause of the genre...

Exactly. You're completely right. It's tiring to see every single pv being butchered up every time. As TeamAyu said Ayu fans always bicker about ever release of hers which does get tiring to see a lot of pages with fans bickering about how bad/good the pv is.

Personally I find Ayu very sexy. She can be sexy and look good in it. So why shouldn't she do a sexy pv? Even if initially she wasn't so sexy in her pvs in her early career doesn't mean she can't try.

I wouldn't compare her to Koda Kumi though because the amount of clothes Kumi wears is usually much less in her sexy pvs. Ayu only shows her tummy a bit and nothing else and yet her outfits still do suggest she's sexy especially since she is. Honestly I think Ayu can pull off looking sexy really well just with a look in her eye. And the bike scene was pretty sexy imo.

Also personally I find LOVEppears way much more sexier than hitomi's LOVE LIFE. She can be as sexy as hitomi and if she took some choreography lessons she'd probably be as sexy as Kumi too. As Impact said hitomi and Kumi have more experience on their sexy pvs since most of the time it's what they do while Ayu has only done a few pvs. Kumi's first pvs attempting at being sexy weren't exactly what you'd call sexy.

Anyhow I've really enjoyed this pv. It's really a breakthrough and shows how Ayu's not afraid to reinvent herself.
