Duty was the BEST ever sold album, after "A BEST",
thus explains,
why the last one was sold out in so many copies-
it contained 3 upbeat albums best: "A Song for XX", "LOVEppears", "Duty" (which already sold out),
that's why it was "da best 4ever!",
I suppose...
anyway,
I don't think that Ayu fell off with "I am..."-
even if it sold much less than previous albums, it doesn't mean it is awful
I luv it for it lyrics and compositions, it's 2nd after "Duty" for me,
"RAINBOW" is the 3d
it's less more deeper than others,
well,
IMO,
yes, it is
"the perfect" "Memorial adress" was kinda surprise for me,
not what I wanted and expected
only "ourselves" was the real upbeat pop, that kept me satisfied at that time
though, "Moments" gave me a little shiny hope,
which immediatly was destroyed by awful noisy "INSPIRE"

Why everyone hate the cheetah theme of Duty??? It's one of the strongest ayu trademark in her fashion history. If you see cheetah in Japan you can probly think of ayu but nobody else. When the cover was released everyone was speechless cuz they didn't expect ayu would do that, and they loved it. Lots of girls copies ayu and wore something with cheetah pattern. In addition, I think the cheetah pattern really fits the theme of Duty. (of course, I think the fox tail is even better LOL).

Back to the topic. Duty is the best album ayu ever made IMO (apart from Memorial address, which is a "mini"). All the songs are excellent, the theme is excellent, and the fluency of the album is excellent... Everything is almost perfect. It's not what I am or RAINBOW can compare with.

I think it would be cool to have a cross between Duty and Memorial address. I personally think the album would sell like crazy.

A matter of taste and opinion, of course, in the end. However, I seriously find that the artwork of Duty just puts me off and lessens my desire to hear it. I just happen to find it cheesy, the theme laughable and totally not suiting the album. However, the music is just flat-out brilliant, and that's what matters in the end.

And indeed, a combination between Duty and Memorial Address would be bizarrely brilliant.

^ I agree. 'Duty' has the worst album cover by Ayu ever. Cheetah print is tacky and the suit is like a cosplay. my favorite album designs are for 'Rainbow' , 'A ballads' and 'A Best'. her remix albums have great designs too.

'Memorial Address' has a nice design too , but I'm a fan of more simplistic designs for albums. I like faceshots & colors/effects over lots of outfits and objects on album designs.

wanna cry for no one loving the Duty cover except me... LOL
I agree that RAINBOW's cover is super pretty... IMO the best cover from ayu (that's the reason of having that album... of course now I appreciate the songs as well). LOVEppears cover is really good as well. I think the LOVEppears/appears combination is one of the best ideas I've seen so far .

I've actually only been a fan of Ayu's since the end of the MY STORY era, but I can tell what it must've been like in the era of A BEST. Wow. ^_~

why so many pple hate the cheetah image? it was a breakthrough for ayu isnt it? i became an ayu fan because of her cheetah image.. many of the youngsters in Japan started buying products with cheetah prints after ayu's Duty album was released! no doubt RAINBOW has a better cover, both have their strengths!

I also agree that My Story and Miss Understood are rather weak. they lack stand out songs. the worst thing about MU is that we have heard so many tracks already before the release of te album. i am just not motivated to buy it.

5 years... dang. x3 But I like her voice now a lot better. I still like her old songs, but like her new ones just a tad more. I mean, I really don't care for anything that came out before I am... I mean, I always thought the cover for Duty wasn't half bad. Just really don't like the songs. >__<
And of course I was never too fond of MY STORY. Maybe because the first songs I heard from there were INSPIRE and GAME, which really annoy me. >__>

And about (miss)understood... the problem is that most of the songs we had already heard. Not too much new stuffs.

Ayu realy matured and i think that she is now much better off doing rock and ballads. Pop no longer suits her. Yar, i agree with you. Some single song like B&D, is this LOVE? and Pride shouldn't be included in her album. This will give people more incentive to buy both the single and album. In addition, this will give her fans more surprises

^they were all a-sides, so they had to be included. "Will" and "alterna" (not that i dont like these songs) could've stayed as singles

Hype nor popularity makes it good.

I agree. She sounds so good in (miss)understood but fairyland sounded kinda...out of touch (couldn't think of any other term).

I think her songs are becoming more westernish. Umm imo her old songs are more fresh & "original" japanese tunes [like.. using disco beats] and much more FREE composition like UNITE and evolution. I really like her songs which she made with DAI, DAI really influenced ayu so much.. I miss her Free&Easy songs.. Say.. Her inspiration is now lower than before? Um the lyrics are even more "general" now.
BUt whatever, she's still my #1 female singer!!
