... and all the new fans?
This has been bugging me for a while; and I guess it's probably not something anyone else feels this strongly about, but I find it highly annoying at times to say the least - so, here is my 2 cents:
This is, I 'know' alot of new people getting into ayu (or so they say/think whatever) and that is reather cool - more fans means more money in Her pockets in the ends - one way or the other. But then they start to call themselves FANS - and that's where I get kindda annoyed - they dload 5 or so songs (yeah, dloading part sucks bigtime, but hey, that's Denmark for ya alright) and on more than on occasion people have ended up with this infamous 'Butterly' song by some swedish girls. *this so doesn't make sense anymore, but I'll continue ranting I guess...* I just don't feel like they should be reffered to as actual fans when in the end they have no idea who/what/and why ayu is Ayu... It might just be me, but I get annoyed, and even more so if they try to lecture ME about Her... I know I havn't been a fan for more than 3 years, but still ... that's a lil' bit more than 2 weeks.... So, sorry to anyone who actually read this post, and if I havn't be putting myself on as a totalt jerk... feel free to tell what you feel about these 'fans' (pardon my english... as I kinda stated above, I'm from Denmark!

what does "Butterfly" have to do with anything?
you mean that the so-called fans who are just totally in love with this song that has absolutely nothing to do with Ayu, and they are lecturing you on her? maybe it's good that you came to this forum....because there are people here who have been fans since the beginning, and even though no one should be lecturing anyone else ever on what a true fan is, if anyone is going to do it, it should be the good people at this forum.

I should really have doubled checked this whole thing before posting - sorry...
what I meant about the butterfly song is, that they think it's her song to begin with, and they quote it on their MSN's, profiles and such... It kindda gets to me when they have a profile (on this danish site), and half of it is dedicated to ayu, that they list that song as something ayu wrote/sang... Iunno, it's almost 1AM here... I should be in bed now, because this clearly states the fact that I'm way too tired to be posting now ...

I hate that too. That song is clearly not Ayu. I mean the vocals don`t even sound the same. I`ve been an Ayu fan since May, but I sure as heck wouldn`t mistake her for some swedish girl. I know Ayu when I hear her and see her.
Who was the person who started that rumor anyway?

I dunno, some very very confused DDR fan who thought ayu sang every song released in japan x_x The advent of file sharing started a MESS of misinformation regarding which artist did what song... People mislabeling their mp3s, guess they didn't realize it would be such a huge source of info for some people.
Anyway, I'm gonna agree that there are new fans who probably shouldn't be calling themselves "fans". But like Ayu_Fan_00 said, it doesn't take THAT long or THAT much work to be able to accurately identify ayu (some of us are still wrong even after years -- I'm recalling when "Moments" was released -- but for the most part, we know what she sounds like cuz we have IQ's above three). If you're at all interested in her for real, you'll do your research and use your own ears. I'm also a stickler for credit being given where credit is due, and not otherwise. I hate when one person is quoted but someone else wrote the words. So people giving Ayu credit for a "Butterfly" lyric makes me a sad panda!  Info on ayu is NOT hard to find. Did these people ever think to google a discography? x_x

^ I've seen that DDR song around. It drives me crazy to see it labeled as "Hamasaki Ayumi."
In the world of Tatu fandom, there is a song called... "Imperfect Girl" I think. And it is infamous in the online community for being a mislabled "Tatu song". It annoys the crap out of me to see it, because it doesn't even sound anything like them at all. When people get to be know-it-alls, though, who have no idea what they are talking about, I just like to go on a rant about old-time news and trivia that is way over their head, and finish it off with a nice "You know what I mean?" They'll nod their head, and change the subject.

yeah. i've been a fan since ummm MY STORY i think. i had all of her albums at one point, but something happened to them and i'm back on track to d/ling them again. plus a few singles. anyway, yeah, it sorta annoys me how people claim to be not just ayu's fan, but anyone's fan and know next to nothing about them. you can like her, but it isn't being a fan. shame on the nubcheeses.

Well, I read your post and I don't know if I got the meaning or not, but do you mean that those people download a few songs that is supposedly sung by Ayu and they become "fans" and start giving out information about Ayu to people like Ayu? If that's the case, then they are horrid little midgets who should just die.
I hate it when people who only know download a hit song or two say they are bigger music fans than me and they appreaciate music more when I practically listen to entire discographies and purchase CDs with my own money. I feel like murdering them with my own hands.

ehmm..you may just simply say to them that that Butterfly song is not ayu's song..
you may show them the lists of ayu's songs to them..and ask them to find the Butterfly song before they lecture you about ayu... and anyway..don't try to get annoyed... it will just give you stress out over something not worth it~

Ah! i understand what you mean.....although i don't have this kind of situation here. Since, j-pop is very common in Singapore, people know to tell them apart, and most of the people had heard of ayu. it's like a brand here.
but if i were to met those so-called fans, i will give them the whole CORRECT ayu songs list and give them a BEAUTIFUL lecture for being so stupid. I hate know-it-all, especially when they pretend to know when they don't know.

It's not only Ayu and the butterfly song by smile.dk (I love buttefly XD smile.dk has nice songs though I've only heard two...)
Many people I've noticed from my school get heaps annoyed when they've been a long-time fan of a certain band and suddenly they get popular and people who only just heard of them start to like them. They get jealous and say things like "you know nothing and I've known them for ages! >_>" It's like they want to be given some credit. It's just natural and I used to feel it heaps XD you just grow out of it eventually

i think they can be called fans, maybe not of the person, Ayu, because you don't completely know a person after just listening to a few songs, they're a fan of her music is all. And you don't go around saying, 'i'm a fan of Ayu's music' cause if you just take off the music, people will still understand. Because she's a musician, you don't have to know too much about HER to call youself a fan. But the fact that they have only a listened to a few of her songs, doesn't make them much a a fan since they haven't heard so many styles of her music, since she's so different. I used to love Ayu, i listened to all her songs, but didn't even know much about her, i only knew a paragraphs worth of her life. I wouldn't call myself a true fan of the person AYU as much as i am of her music, you know? I dont' know enough about her besides what she puts in her lyrics. Personally, i dont' think that's enough to know about someone.
But when soemone starts mistkign her songs, then hey, i feel bad for them but it's not that big of a deal cause they'll soon realize it if you just correct them or something.

 what means 'a real fan', anyway? can I be called fan, cuz I know all singles tracklist by heart and lyrics too? or who spends lotsa money on Ayumi? so, am I fan?

if they lecture you on her when obviously you know more about her, thats one thing, but otherwise, who are you to say that they are or are not fans? just because they don't know her as well as you or only recently discovered her, that doesn't mean they aren't a fan. afterall, at one point you were a new fan as well.
