I picked up the album yesterday and I have to say my reactions to it are very mixed. While I appreciate that the album is a lengthy, robust offering, I feel that the album suffers the problem most double albums do; there is way too much filler that does little to add to the album. In my opinion, they should have stuck to a single disk release and only keep the great or atleast worthwhile songs because the filler really starts to detract from the album. In addition, even though Christina inarguably has one of the most technically astouding and powerful voices in pop music, I still feel she oversings a lot. It's competely unneccesary and makes her vocals sound very showy and oftentimes Cabaret-esque, especially when combined with the jazzy, vintage feel of the album. I have to agree with cybermoomba, the whole 20's, 30's feel really does drag after a few tracks like you said. Certainly it sounds authentic, but the production is so repetitive and monotonous. Not only that, but I feel this type of music just isn't viable today. While I commend Christina for trying something new and interesting, I'm just not hearing the modern twist. Maybe I'm just missing something, but the album feels dated, even if intentionally, but she should have refreshingly gone "Back To Basics" while still remaining modern and relevant-sounding. I have a feeling the album will grow on me, so maybe in a couple more listens I'll come back saying it's brilliant.

hmmm there is one cd which is really "back to basics" and another who mixed between old school and modern, anyway....her song are meaningfull to me,if you look into the meaning, not only the song, and you will find out that this album's gorgeous. but i don't like "thank you".

this album looks like her tribute to people around her, like her husband, her mom,and her fans

I felt the same way as you did at first no doubt. I kept skipping through the songs. It wasn't until I really stopped and listened that I felt that this was a good album. Still, I'm finding some songs I didn't like before really good now. Like Mercy on Me and Save Me from Myself.

^It does seem like an album that will sound better after repeated listens. I think it could be a excellent album once I get accustomed to the new style and develop more of an appreciation for it.

I bought the album after downloading it, and I feel good about that. I went to K-mart and got it for 12.99, even though the sticker said 19.99, cd's always have first week discount prices to jack up the first weeks sales. I am happy with this album.

I luv Candyman, the lyrics are so nasty!
I will buy the album today at target, woo.
My grandma seen the Good Morning America concert on the tv yesterday and told my fav. uncle that she loved it! So you know my uncle had to give me the news. My grandpa also said he loved the big band sound~ I thought that was pretty cool.

I hope an edited version of Candyman comes around soon so I can put the song on a mix cd for work, though I doubt the kids would understand what she's meaning anyways.

Christina Aguilera was on MTV's All Eyes on Christina for the VMAs. On the interview she discusses her new album, her thoughts, her marriage and her life.
go here and click on VMAs and then click on Videos. Click on the little bubble that says All Eyes on Christina and then the interview will come up on the left side. This was an interesting interview, when I saw it on MTV yesterday. It had a lot of good insight on Christina's thoughts on the album and how she was inspired by events in her life and her legends.

That was really good. I pretty knew about everything she was talking about already. I think she's actually a good role model. I know alot of people would disagree because of the way she dresses. Thats actually one of the reason thats she's actually a good one. She's comfortable in her own skin.

I think the same thing. Her thought's on woman equality and society is ideal for any woman to have. I liked her more because of her new look and attitude that she was showing the public. It takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there like that.

I rank her albums.
1. Stripped her breakthrough album, my all time fav. 9.5/10
2. Back to Basics. Awesomness. I love that through back feel. 9.0/10
3. Christina Aguilera. I liked her vocals and most of her songs. but she was too much like all the other pop princess for me to like her as much as I do now. 7.6/10

The album should've been like this:

1 CD

01 Intro (Back to Basics)
02 Makes Me Wanna Pray
03 Aint No Other Man
04 Understand
05 Slow Down Baby
06 Without You
07 Still Dirrty
08 Candyman
09 Nasty Naughty Boy
10 I got Trouble
11 Hurt
12 The Right Man
13 Here to Stay
14 Thank You (Dedication to Fans...)

Can we say winner?! Now that would've been an awesome album

This album is pretty good. I love that classic feel of it. But "Stripped" is still the better album from her so far.
