her past is sad but it could've been worse..I guess it makes me happy that she puts in so much emotion when she sings though!

theprojeczero: worst comment ever.

I'm guessing Ayu's past was so traumatic because of her father leaving and her mother hardly ever seeing her. And the fact that her grandma died on the day of poker face's recording and stuff like that. Basically just reasons that've been covered in this thread, unless there's something Ayu hasn't revealed to us.

Doesn't she say that she was in a gang or something?

I dunno if that could be considered "traumatic"...but I think I've read that in various places. It usually says [quoted by Ayu I guess], "I guess you would've called me a "gangster"." Or something like that, anyway.

Everyone keeps repeating the same thing, so I really hope I actually adding something new to this thread.

I think she blamed herself for a lot of things that happened when she was a kid. Her mum had to work to support her even though later on, as a child, Hamasaki had to work. What happened to her wasn't traumatizing but the feelings associated with it were. If you have divorced parents, or even a single parent you kind of know the feeling, especially if you the only parent you have is never there for you.

Also, people tend to make mistakes. With friends, life in general or family. Maybe she said some hurtful things when she was younger and regretted being cold?
