When I saw the BLUE BIRD cover I thought about ayu relaxing at a beach house. It could have been Koda Kumi, Madonna, Sharon Stone, PECO, max matsuura, T.M. revolution or whatever doing that exactly same pose and showing the same ammount of skin and staring exactly like that, it still wouldn't remind me of sex. Sometimes I honestly wonder if this is really the 21th century we're at....

If any century, I think that the 21th would be the one to hold the most porn/sex paranoia, heh. But I agree on what you say, people do jump to conclusions quickly, often based on a percentage of skin.

I think sexy, or at least suggestive has been a part of her image all along.

But her music is not sexy at all, even though some photos and covers may be suggestive. SHe's not singing stuff like "erotica" and "hit me baby one more time". Her lyrics are not suggestive mostly.

The BLUE BIRD cover features a beach theme. I really think ayu actually wear way too much excessive ammounts of layers of clothes for someone who was supposed to be on the beach. }{,& and BLUE BIRD covers almost makes me think ayu's a strict mulims girl who was forcefully abducted and thrown at a beach. The only exception was UNITE! in which she indeed looked "properly" dressed for someone who's supposed to be on the beach (minimal ammounts of clothes). Even so, people think she's showing way too much ass on BLUE BIRD, ah c'mon Walk on a beach for a day and you'll see who's showing way too much ass....

I don't see Ayumi as a sex symbol, though I do recognize that she's been trying to make her image a little sexier each year. Unfortunately, more people judge by looks more than by the actual personality of an act. I'll tell you right now, there are some really innocent sounding J-pop songs by innocent looking groups (especially in the past) but if you ever listen to the lyrics closely, you get taken aback by how risque they are. With the porn star remarks, it could likely be a product of the fact that there are a LOT of mislabeled files on Japanese fileshare programs claiming to have a nude Ayumi picture, etc.

Immel: lol I've never quite agreed with you on that one...my eyes weren't drawn to her lovely ass immediately upon seeing the pic for the first time. I always thought it was nicely tucked behind her gown. On top of that, it's a fitting bikini for her; she's not one of those girls who wear super shrunken down bikini bottoms.

lol first first and still only PV I showed my gf was Angel's Song and she thought it was so weird. And when Ayu landed on high heels she was like whatttt no. First CD cover I showed her was a bootleg (m)u. SO STUPID OMG. One time I told her omg Ayu's almost 28! And she's still so awesome! My gf replied 28??? damn she's old (she meant old for a pop star, but it was definitely dissing) she only looks like that cause she puts a TON of make up on. And I'm like...<shakes head> (why do I even bother...). lol in retrospect I would've shown her endless sorrow or something first...and maybe MA or something for an album cover, it's way tame lol.

sex symbol differs from people to people. It is unavoidable that some of her fans include her in their fantasy. Some of her MVs are really suggestive (for example, the MV of "connected" ) and her album covers are quite provocative.

But remember, the thin line between art and porn is really blur. Hers is truly arts.
