The Official Rihanna Thread

Well, I already made a thread for JoJo... so now let's tackle Rihanna Fenty, another teenager singing eerily sexualized lyrics!

A pop/R&B singer from Barbados, Rihanna burst onto the music scene in 2005 with her hit single, Pon de Replay, and has since had other hits, such as:

If It's Lovin' That You Want
S.O.S.
Unfaithful

...And... those are really all of her hits thus far.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rihanna

She's released two albums, both of which have sold well, and mixes pop, dance, R&B, ballads, and a bit of an island flavor with he rmusic.

And Beyoncé apparently wrote Ring the Alarm about her (that'd be hilariously awesome).

So let's all discuss Rihanna.

SOS is very catchy but I don't care about the rest of her music.

I find Rihanna to be a great singer, a singer, not an artist. I loved Pon de Replay when I downloaded it on a whim, seeing it was #3 on the Hot 100 and I liked it, I proceeded to obtain Music Of The Sun which, at times, was too evident about her culture (read: too much darn reggae!). Highlights included the amazing Now I Know. When SOS leaked as that LQ 320-bitrate 48KHz song, I played it over and over, hoping it would get to me, but to no avail. Only when the video was released along with an okay rip, I began to love it without shame, nowadays I compare it to D. D. D. by Koda Kumi, they both have that non-stop singing thing going on which lasts almost 3 minutes. Then came A Girl Like Me, pleasantly, after only 8 months. I loved it so much more than her debut, highlights including Final Goodbye and P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You) (the way she sings out the letter is great).
I was also happy when I realized in November that I had been seeing the video for Unfaithful since JULY. We Ride flopped, how sad.
And I also get this feeling that now that she's a successful singer, she doesn't need me anymore, she has plenty of other fans.

Her album tracks, for the most part, suck. "A Girl Like Me" is slightly better than "Music of the Sun," but really they only have 5 or 6 good tracks each (and they all seem to be the singles, lmbo).

But still, I love her <3

Yep, I think her album tracks suck, kind of regret buying it, but I do love "Pon de replay", "S.O.S.", and "Unfaithful"

I... like her. Music of the Sun was an awesome album, but the midtempo reggae tracks were meh, but not bad at all. Just a bit... there.

I loved from that album....

Pon de Replay
If It's Lovin' That You Want
That La, La, La
The Last Time
Willing to Wait
Music of the Sun
Let Me
Rush
There's A Thug in My Life
(I was surprised because of the title... but the lyrics still creep me out. "When I see him tonight, I'm gonna give him everything.")
Now I know

The remix at the end just screws things up.

A Girl Like Me was... good, but not as great as her debut. Of the tracks, i liked/loved:

S.O.S.
Kisses Don't Lie
(Sometimes... other times it's very plodding)
We Ride
Final Goodbye
P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You)
A Girl Like Me
A Million Miles Away

Unfaithful... ehh. The music's good, but the lyrics SUCK so bad. They're so stupid. Not deep, not meaningful... stupid. You're cheating on your man and you hate that it's tearing him up inside ebcause he knows, you know he knows, you two don't speak of it. Dump him, or let him dump your ass, or stop cheating and work through it together, you stupid ho. Her voice is a bit reedy and it definitely doesn't work here and doesn't carry the required emotion.

The remix at the end is better than on her debut, but it still messes up the atmosphere set by A Million Miles Away. The reggae songs bored me to tears. You can't tell them apart!

Love the cover, though.

I have listened to none of her albums and I hated how irritating Pon De Replay was. It's like repetition canned. S.O.S was really awesome, and Unfaithful was just hilarious. I hate the lyrics, "murderer" is a really stupid word to use, IMO. We Ride plain sucks. That's all I know.

Her voice is really... two-dimensional? I don't know how to describe it, but it doesn't seem to have any power in it at all. Unfaithful came off emotionless and overdone for me.

She has catchy songs, but she can't sing at least in my opinion. Oh well, I'm still addicted to SOS and Pon de replay.

It's not a rumor. The Japanese release date is 5/30 and the US release is 6/5.

The first single is already getting played on the radio.

Thanks! I was about to get Music Of The Sun, just because I love Let Me so much.

You can listen to it on her official site. It's a pretty good song, but not as catchy as "SOS" or "Pon de Replay." I like the "ella, ella, ella..." parts =x
