I don't think people were outraged and swore death upon ayu and decided to leave her fanbase. This is what happened with this vid: People didn't like the video, they voiced their opinion and interpretation, some more strongly then others. Some brought up racism, stereotypes, body shaming, shallowness etc etc (Bonus point here, in the beginning, the PV was titled "full", throwing fuel on the fire for the people upset about the ending) Other people tried to tell them that their interpretation "is wrong" and tried to explain the "true meaning" behind it. (Quotation marks because I don't think there is a wrong or true meaning, you shouldn't force your opinion on others, this goes both ways) The "other group" then meant that it was poorly executed/easily misunderstood/didn't see the "true meaning" at all/still thought it was cheap as f, pro-group then again tries to explain further that there is more behind the meaning/its just a fun video/LEAVE AYU ALONE/ thus the debate continues. Now the debate is about how angry people were over the ending. Even I am sitting here writing about people being angry. What good comes of this? Everyone are pointing fingers and basically telling each other that they are bad fans for hating the video or bad fans for not seeing though the "bullshit ayu spat out". Its really shameful to see that a forum can't have a constructive debate on something without people actually going on personal attacks. Last edited by kimmeh; 29th November 2013 at 11:44 PM. |

People love to dictate what true fans can or can't do. It's like Ayu is infallible and people were supposed to be psychic and see her good intentions through her often horrible execution.

It wasn't exactly titled full, but it was assumed to be so in the original post because of the length and since it contained the entire song. It was probably a bad judgement since avex never puts up the complete versions normally.
Basically, the way things tend to go for new videos or covers any time they are released usually go a few ways. a) Most people like it. One or two do not. <-- this is preferred, as it avoids most drama and people are generally happy like with the covers for this single b) Opinions are evenly split and there is a LOT of back and forth <-- basically, what happened here. We don't see threads like this often for PVs... c) Only about two or three people like it, and the rest of the fandom HATES whatever it is <-- this happened with the Sunrise/Sunset covers and many a photoshoot during the Shimomura era, I would say even Bold & Delicious made many people speechless since it was a 'new' Ayu The way I see it, or rather 'have' seen it in the last few years is that you are never going to be able to avoid the eventual decline to personal attacks in b) and c), because oftentimes people aren't willing to see the situation from the other perspective (when it comes to Sunrise/Sunset for instance, some loathe the covers so much that anyone who liked them was 'blind') and aren't going to budge on either side. True fans can do whatever they want (as can any fan really) but I think most of us should agree on the fact that Ayu rarely ever has 'bad' intentions in her works even if the execution is a bit lacking. That's just not how Ayu is or has ever been. You don't have to be psychic, but use some common sense.

uh...what do you mean by "preferred" exactly? And use 'common sense'? You seem to be all mixed up interms of what is considered common sense. trust me, blindingly liking everything Ayu puts out is not common sense. it's something else entirely Last edited by Yumsushi; 30th November 2013 at 12:13 AM. |

The post is about people going to social media to ask Ayumi herself to explain her releases, sometimes, on a very rude way. |

I can see what you mean that the perfect type of response is when most people like it, but thats rather rare and to be honest, also sometimes dull. All the comments are just "OMG LOVE IT" and thats it. I like it when people discuss and share their viewpoints, but I hate it the minute it turns into pointing fingers and discrediting each other of "true fan" status because they don't share the same opinion. While I do agree that Ayu rarely has bad intentions, and she could a made a unintended mistake that people would get offended by(even though we have a confirmation now that things are not the way they seem). But you can't tell someone they're not allowed to be offended or feel in a certain way(not that you're doing it, some comments did), thats just makes it worse, and that happened here. MANY TIMES. @Andrenekoi; I'm sorry, I misunderstood, but it held true for AHS too(I thought you meant AHS since you said western, and this forum is mostly western people). Members here were picking on each other for having different opinions, and your comment about people getting "SO offended" made me a bit sad about how often AHS goes from discussing something to hating on each other. And obviously it's preferred because we don't end up with a 25 page thread on a promotional video/CD cover/new song preview/etc. Sometimes it's nice to see mainly positive vibes. It's not very interesting and can get dull since all that is ever said is "Wow, this is great!" or "Beautiful!" but I feel like that sort of thing is much appreciated over "Guys, she's doing fish lips again. Flop." or "Oh lord, she's released another disaster. Can we move on to the next track now?". The worst is probably when all anyone posts is "This release is complete bullshit."

Sorry for misjudging this video and calling it superficial! I didn't realize that it was the short version! XD

Ok so she explained what the video was about. So what?
I see nothing wrong with her explaining what it meant. I didn't like the video because I thought it was bizarre and stupid, that's about it. Doesn't mean I'm a bad fan. Just because you love an artist doesn't mean that you'll love everything they do. |

I don't care about the video, I simply don't like it and even if at first I didn't like the song I think now that it is way better than this video.
that's it. this doesn't mean that I'm no more a fan. I still like Ayu, her music and respect her as an artist. That said I'm pretty sure that the video was the full version at the beginning but Ayu asked Avex to add the final AFTER the reactions of the fans just my opinion Last edited by Kuronekomi; 30th November 2013 at 08:08 PM. No, we saw it the minute it went up. It did not have the ending as it had a weird fade out from the start.

Her fanbase? Who even is that anymore? How old are they now? Do they still resonate with Ayu even though she's not always easy to relate to? What do these releases say about her fanbase? What does it say about her? maybe THAT'S reading too much into stuff. But it's odd to me, because I never really felt like she needed to explain things, but I think I just ignore a lot of people and their opinions lolAnd yeah, now that I think about it, the video does end abruptly. But personally, this was the first time I had heard the full version of the song, so like, I wasn't confident on thinking in any other possibility. They have never released such looooonnngg previews of a PV. I don't think they changed it after fan reactions. They changed it really quickly. And as far as I'm concerned...was anywhere else even talking about the ending they way we were? People said that on mixi and stuff, they were just talking about whether it was a good or bad pv. But idk. I guess the best thing about the pv is that it highlights the song well.

"HOPE" in FIVE cover wasn't clear at all, but eventually someone pointed out. I think I'd never find out myself, because I don't see covers too much. Does it mean the covers had bad execution? For me it only add more readings.
I have to say that the last thing I see in the video would be "If you're not Ayumi Hamasaki, you can't get the guy of your dreams, even if you work hard." I hope to not change this after the full version xD
