hurray! i was so impatient with school and work today because i know the pv probably leaked already (i was almost speeding home from work just for the download, lol) just like the screencaps, its a beautiful pv. should have replaced the song with "it was" or "secret" though, might have achieve more emotions.

Has anyone noticed that on 2:58, when the old man is leaving his house, he touches something that appears to be his necklace?

And thanks for all your insight, Misa-chan.

I noticed that, but I wasn't sure what it was. It goes by so quickly that it looked like a ring on a cord or a button... You only see it for a second before his fingers cover it.

*continues to gush over how great momentum is*

Ummm... I'm kinda disappointed in this PV cause when i saw it on the CM, i thought it's gunna be really, really amazin' , but nut so as i thought. I mean the effect and Ayumi is really amazin' . I dun't know! I like it though. Enjoy it too! Heehee... Rainy day PV still give me tears and i'm scare to watch it sumetime.

I find momentum PV is really similar to No Way To Say and Rainy Day that comes together as one. No? Dun't you think so? Anyway, one thing i HATE 'bout this PV is Ayumi havin' straight hair. How hideous! *Stomp Ayumi's straight hair!* I HATE girls with straight hair. I swear that's the most ugliest thing that girls can do.

In the end, it's quite really surprisin' how Ayumi is just a unrest spirit lookin' for warmth and love in the winter time while everyone is happily livin' their own live. Nice one for once in awhile! Now, i'm waitin' for 1LOVE!

It's probably a cross. With Christians, Once finishing or initiating a prayer, the cross is touched or kissed.

Edit: Oh wait, I looked at it again xD

Maybe it's one of those little lockets you can keep on your neck with a picture of a loved one? Or a symbol of God? Something like that?

First, the candle scene should be the easiest to explain. There is a myth that there is a dark cellar-like place which houses candles. Every single living person in the world has his own unique candle, some versions of the myth says that the person's name will be carved onto the candle itself. The point is, as long as your candle is still alight, you will remain alive. You will die only when your candle has burnt completely or the flame is extinguished accidentally. The guardian of these candles is Death himself in some versions, while an old man in others (this may be one reason why it's an old man who lays flowers under the lamppost, but we'll get to that point soon). In a perhaps more well-known version, there are hourglasses instead of candles, and I'm sure many of you have heard of this version before.

Next is ayu standing all alone under the lampost like a rejected hobo . The reason why she's crying may not be obvious at first, but read the lyrics and watch till the end and you will realize that she is most probably dead, and she misses someone who is alive, ALOT. The line "The days when I loved you were the last miracle to me" shows that she probably died for love. That will then explain why she seems to be singing at the top of her voice, but noone notices her presence. Yes, the people looked at the spot that she was standing at, but they do not see her (a spirit), they just look at the spot because it reminds them of her.

Last thing. In the myth, the guardian of the candles has his own personal candle which never goes out (probably the yellow one in the PV). The guardian can choose to shorten a life by extinguishing a candle, or he can extend it by using his own flame to light up an extinguished one. My guess is that the blue ayu (as the guardian here) helped to light up the snow ayu's extinguished candle, which allows her spirit a brief visit to the living world. That's why she appeared in the PV, and just in time to see an old man lay out flowers for her. In the end, a gust of wind extinguished the candle, and snow ayu distintegrated just before the old man can see her.
I have heard of the candle part [my teacher told us before]. Hmm your explaination really helps me understand the pv better... I'm utterly confused about the whole thing until u mention the candles[life/death]

I can't wait for the making-of~

Does anyone else think that she looks SCARILY like her self in 02-03 in the candle scenes?
Like, there's nothing really different about her except maybe a lot of lipgloss..

That's just cause she's so freakin amazing and every time she goes back to an old hairstyle everything goes back in time...

When she's got the surreal hairstyle everyone's like omg she's so young and when she's got the straight hair I'm like omg she's so young just like Rainbow era...maybe she's like Sampson or something... <3 Ayu

Watch, when she's older like Yuming or something she'll be like oh I think I feel 20ish today and then do the Depend on You TV lives hairstyle. And no one would be able to tell the difference.

She could make so much money and become uberfamous worldwide for discovering the technique of marking each period of your life with a distinctive hairstyle and then using that to revert whenever you want. x2 <3 Ayu

I'm in love with this PV and the song. The song has this epic feel to the choruses that compliments the shouts of the crying Ayu. I think that the incongruity between the tone of the song and the tone of the PV that some of you feel isn't quite there for me. It's not a depressing PV to me, the tone just doesn't speak so. I think that Ayu is once again playing the muse...telling a story that has already passed. Something sad in the moment can have a more depressing mood, but something sad in retrospect can have this epic feel... I look at the PV from this more detached point of view, that of the muse, and I feel that the song is playing the role of a theme song more than a scene song, know what I mean? Differences in point of view. Sigh, I love Ayu's muse.

Yeah, it reminds me "The little match girl" fairytale, too... the feeling in this pv is so sad. You have to see the walt disney short about this tale, is similar to Ayumi's pv!

Amazing! Such a sad PV. Finally, a story PV! (BLUE BIRD deserves to get thrown into the trash for featuring her dancers though I have to admit there are really beautiful shots of Ayu against the sea)

Thanks for the explanation! I got really shocked when she crumbled into icy dust. I liked it all the more because it seemed European influenced, like rainy day. Not oh yeah, America (i.e. Beautiful Fighters, Bold & Delicious, PRIDE)

Heh, mixing work with holiday was never a good thing.

She is indeed scarily similar to herself in those pictures.

Well, she's looked different since those days, but the hairstyle brought her old-look back..

And the entire BLUE BIRD single was like, a vacation.

She did the covers when they shot the PV~

Something my genius sister just brought up...

Lights usually go awry when ghosts are around, and the lamp post Ayu seems to be tied to flickers on at the very beginning of the PV, and it remains alight throughout the video even when her candle goes out.

My heart aches when I see Ayu crying in the PV... ; _ ;
The PV and lyrics are so depressing... when I heard of <Momentum> (the 30s preview), never thought it would be such a sad song...

Misa-chan: I really like your interpretation. Reminds me of a story I read before. The legends about the candles are quite famous, and there're a lot of versions with different culture background (I think it originated from Chinese legend).

And I think the flowers that the old man is holding mean something too? Can't remember what does that kind of flower symbolize though, but I am sure it means something.

Well, the lamp that flickers on is mounted on some house-fixture, not the lamppost that she's hanging around at, but that point is very interesting nonetheless.. since all the lights seem to just be 'on' when she pops up.
