I like when ayu is being herself. That means I like when she's just messing around onstage, moving however she wants. It's cuter, it's sweeter, it's more endearing, and I feel like it's more Ayu. I feel like Ayu is compromising her "self" onstage more and more, and I don't think it's avex's orders, I think she's trying to put on a great show for the fans, without realizing that alot of her fans want to see an AYUMI HAMASAKI CONCERT, not an elaborate stage circus. Concert Tour 2000 was an Ayu concert. AT 08 was a stage circus.
I agree with all of your post basically. But strangely I actually like it when she dances too - but more I like how she looks when she dances, even though she isn't that great of a dancer. It's hard to explain.

I appreciate her effort in trying to dance in concert, but... she's rather stiff as a dancer.

The over-choreographing of numbers lately has gotten on some people's nerves, with Ayu seeming to have every single movement choreographed and rehearsed to no end...

^ Yeah, I do ultimately prefer her when she is more free. I enjoy her choreographed numbers sometimes though. Most of the choreography for the Next Level tour though I thought was of a fairly low quality and I think that is because she is having her dancers choreograph for her now. Sometimes dancers make great choreographers, but certainly not all the time and someone at her level should at least be using a pro-choreographer. Chiharu and Etsu of TRF are at least known for their choreography skills as well as dancing and the stuff they have come up with for Ayu has been much better I think. (like the Real Me dance)

Peco is definitely a THOUSAND times better as a choreographer than as a backup singer. Even if she does recycle dance moves sometimes, her dances are nice and fun to watch and well-coordinated. She's a very talented choreographer, but she should never open her mouth to sing. XD

I used to like it when she danced. When it was appropriate and fit, like bit of dancing she did in AT 03-04 and cdl 02-03, when it would only pop up a few songs. Now it seems like everything has to be choreographed and preplanned (which imo takes away from the emotion of the song) and she tries to dance all the time and she just fails at it.

She can't just stand there and sing a song by herself with the band. A perfect example of what mean is whenever she sings a ballad, it can't just be her and the band, instead someone has to come out and do some crazy dance behind her which doesn't fit and is just corny and distracting.

I think that's why i like the earlier tours better because it was mainly her singing, with some costumes thrown in for fun and every once in a while a few dancers would pop up. Now its like mainly bad costumes, an unnecessarily large stage, with a barrage of dancers doing the same lame repetitive dances with some singing thrown in.

Sorry but... Peco can kick Ayu ass as a vocalist any day of the week... It's not her fault if Ayu bad vocal skills are clearer when she can't harmonize her voice with her back up singers's...

I'm not saying Ayu's a better singer than Peco, but Peco.... really sucks. Princess is the best singer of the three as far as vocal skill, but Peco's completely tone-deaf (which really shows alot when she improvises) and needs to learn to stop scooping so much. On top of it, her voice doesn't match Ayu's at all, which makes her a bad selection for a BG singer in an Ayu concert regardless of how much talent she might have.

Either way, she should be choreographing, not singing, at Ayu's concerts.

Well, we all know ayu's strength is not dance. But i don't mind because dance is a secondary skill for me. As long as she keeps writing beautiful lyrics and beautiful music... i don't care tbh.

actually, it would be rather interesting if Ayu would perform some lively, groovy stuff, like BoA does on her concerts.

BUT

Compared to BoA, Ayu is a well developed "classic"...smth like a "good wine"...whereas BoA is still just a fizzy limo, beatin' the floor ;-)

However, we might see Ayu cutting some hot moves when she makes a more dynamic single next time.

Anyway, I'd like to see her doing that "beach move" from INSPIRE PV...that was cool.

it all depends on the rhythm of the song.

I know this thread is about dancing, but I just gotta say it still perplexes me why Ayu did not keep the two backup singers that she had in 2003 just prior to Peco and Princess. They were superior in just about every way.

true true...Peco is old n ugly ...and she just "kicks" her leg all the time...not really a dance move...kind of spoils the setting...you know, singers should sing, dancers should dance...Peco should not try doing both =P

to be honest, without dancing, most of her performances would be just standing there and sing. which can be pretty boring especially ayu is so eager to impress her fans..

But i dont really mind her dancing as long as she thinks its deem fit.

And regarding her props, without the props, concerts are really dull. Concerts without props can be done along a street or whatsoever???

Props are a must imo.
