I think only time will tell (regarding Kuu). I'm actually interested in the next Ayu vs. Kuu studio album match up they are going to have. Ayu might be able to bounce back and sell a million with her albums again, and for Kuu, I think her next album has a good chance of passing 1 million too.

Wow, Kumi got rank 4 with 37,600 copies this week. Total sales exceeding 320,000 already. Kinda amazing.

I can't believe Yuna Ito's limited edition awesome pop number only managed #20 with 9,837 units. It's her worst performing single then. I love the song so much.

And thankfully, ULTRA BLUE is #32 this week, diminishing chances of it beating Ayu's (miss)understood anytime soon. Hopefully it fails to do so before the Oricon year ends thus sealing the chance for Ayu to be #6 for 2006.

Well #32 will be still enough for ULTRA BLUE to pass 850k. Plus, she's still on track (on a week to week basis) to passing (m)u. I think there's still a few more albums that will have a chance of passing (m)u, most notably ULTRA BLUE, NAMELESS WORLD and Kobukuro's BEST Album. Also, there's a rumoured Johnny's compliation album and I'm not sure how well a Shounan Nokaze album will do since their single for the album is approaching 500k. Worst case scenario: (m)u is out of the top 10 yearlies if all these albums outsell her.

If (m)u gets out of the top 10 yearly, it will be the first Ayu CD to do so right? Can you give information on how all her albums did in their years, and what's the current top 10 albums/singles of all time in Japan?

Here's the rankings of only her original albums + A BEST + A BALLADS

1999 - LOVEppears (15); A Song for XX (16)
2000 - Duty (2) ; LOVEppears (14)
2001 - A BEST (2)
2002 - I am... (2)
2003 - RAINBOW (2)
2004 - Memorial address (5)
2005 - MY STORY (7)
2006 - (miss) understood (Currently 6)

-She's NEVER had a yearly #1 album. She was beaten by Hikki for 2 years, 1 year by Mai K, another by CHEMISTRY.

Here's the DL link (in MS Excel) for the all time list (top 100):

Under normal stances, yes. But as a quadriple A-side with 4 PVs and interludes, I would say the sales numbers aren't that great...

But generally I think that the era of queens and idols are really over. Morning musume don't even sell half of what they used to sell (well, it might be theh fact that IMO crappier members get in each year). Until the boyband rage is over, another queen will appear.

As for Ayu and Hikki...Ayu's prime is over (not that surprisingly...). I would give Hikki a few more years because she's younger...but let's face it, new artists take over.

She still has all those records set though ~ :]

2 tracks + 2 PV with 2 remixes vs. 4 tracks + 4 PVs with interludes and remixes.

Even with Blue Bird's extra cover you can't really just compare a A-and-a-half side with a quadriple A side single...

If Ayu released the same thing, I think that it would definitely sell more than Koda's..

4 hot wave didn't have remixes or instrumentals or makings.

Uh, those are sort of just 'extras' o_o;

With as much 'core material' KK-person had, she should've been able to sell twice as much as Ayu >>

Come on, do you really buy a single for remixes or a making?

No, you buy singles based on the quality of the song. And in this case, apparently Kumi won! Yes, Ningyo-hime/I'll Be There/Juicy beats the crap out of BLUE BIRD partly due to content, but you gotta count quality. But who cares, there's a whole lot more of Ayu releases that beat hers.. So Ayu just lost one round.

^ Yeah, sadly.

But quality-wise, she's won every single year. Nothing beats her music, it's just wow. Except her latest releases which have the "WTF" factor overwhelming the goodness.
