I was wondering that too. How is she changing the world? She doesn't even release to the "world".

Now if she can surpass Celine Dione's 200+ Million Albums sold World Wide
then we can talk. Otherwise, I'm still alittle confused.

PS: I didn't know you could be alumini if you drop out. But what does happen to your records though?

I'm not in love with anything she's released post UB except BW. And sometimes I forget that that's on HS rather than UB. The PV for PoL was better than HS but it was as bland as Hikari was. And the difference between then and now is that the song doesn't even save the PV. I won't be buying the next Clips Collection. :/

Changing the world doesn't mean you have to have an effect on every country. She changed the face of J-Pop, and brought R&B to the forefront of mainstream music in Asia. She changed the world in that manner.

I don't know
EMI has been saving so much money with Hikki... all of her videos are so low-budget (or no budget, as with BW/K&C) and Hikki writes and produce all of the music herself. And then she goes and has some of the highest-selling singles and albums of the year, lol.

The least they could do for hikki,is make her have a decent PV,her pv's lately have been VERY crappy... but I'd rather have better quality music than an amazing pv,but it would'nt hurt to have a nice one every once in a while

that's what the world implies, as in having an effect in more than just your own country. If it was Music World than, yeah, she made some pretty big changes.

I liked the POL PV, but other than that, all her recent ones've been really, really boring :/

And, I found the Canadian version of Heart Station today :3 I was going to order it, but then I forgot it was released here.

Hikki's been really influential all across Asia. She brought R&B to the forefront of Japanese music, which influences all of Asia.

^I'm sure it wasn't either, but she got the most publicity and hype about it.

@dddetc: asia still isn't changing the world. :/ Changing the world is when what you do impacts the world that's what the words changing the world implies. not just the asian world or asian countries.

If you go to Europe, South America, or even the USA and say Utada Hikaru how many people will be like: Of course I know her...! she's not change the world statud even if she made a big impact in music in Asia. Asia is one of 7 continents.

^ I agree, Utada may have helped bring changes to JAPAN and other parts of Asia, because of her music, but she still doesn't have much have an impact, in the world other than that. Now if she were to do something like, make an english album and have it sell in the U.S, and sell like crazy, and other Asian artist started to get reconized more, in places other than Asia, which causes them to have more success in U.S and in other countries. Then she would definitly have world impact...in music

Like I said earlier, Hikki was not the first person to do R&B in Japan or Asia, but she was the first to bring it to the forefront of mainstream music. Kinda like how Rum DMC didn't invent rap, but so many people look at them as the forefathers of the movement.

When I see "people changing the world", that doesn't mean that those people are affecting every single part of the world. It just means they are having a major impact in their field. Columbia University also has Bartok as one of their most famed and world-changing people, but do 90% of people even know who that is? Probably not. I don't see how Hikki hasn't had a major impact on the world. Just because she hasn't left her mark on the United States does not mean she hasn't made changes in other parts of the globe.

Honestly I just think that their list of world-changing alumni is just another way to list their most notable former students. Hikki definitely fits into that category.

so meaning by changing the world, what does it mean? toward changing the music style in japan, bringing notice to japan? somehow i don't really see music as a world changing topic~

it's like after she divorced her husband , she went downhill , PV wise .

I don't think it's hard to make a good PV with a good director foreseeing the production of things is it ?

Even though Celine Dion has sold a ridiculous number of records, I wouldn't say she's really "changed" the world. She's a great singer and consumers love her, but I don't see her making a huge impact on the world (besides My Heart Will Go On, but Titanic had some credit there too). The term "change" differs in definition for everyone. For Columbia, an Ivy League that wants more applicants to increase it's yearly college ranking, "change" is anything that'll bring fame to the school, including Utada Hikaru.

In my opinion, Utada hasn't changed Japan, but she's definitely influenced it. She's not the first R&B artist, but she made it mainstream and added something fresh to an industry dominated by idols and dance-pop. Japan's not the world, but it's an important part of the world, and since there's only one Bill Gates, we might as well give Utada the "change" award too.

i think the whole change the world is just a publicity thing, but it's nice that hikki is recognized as a "changer" ^^, but seriously if we were to get specific, changing the world would mean leaving an permanent impact~like umm...the holocaust~but that's too serious, but it did change the world~..i think @_@..maybe i'll just stop talking, this have nothing to do with hikki,...so prisoner of love is a good song
