All her old work... was she a model because she needed to be, and became an idol as a fallout... or did she just simply want to be famous? I wonder how different the dreams of the "NOTHING FROM NOTHING" & idol Ayumi Hamasaki are to what she felt after she became "Ayu" with A Song for xx...

Early Ayu always shock me though.
I cannot still believe she released a rap/hip-hop/whatever it is single . And then look at Ayu now, she's one of the biggest female singer in Japan.

Very much so. I wish I knew more details of her past, you know as here in America we know everything. I have read stuff and seen interviews but it's not as detailed.

I never, ever knew that she used a different kanji hahaha (she used 﨑 instead of 崎)

Yeah, it's quite difficult to spot, isn't it? She used this variant of kanji between 1994-1997. Be it on TV, in dramas, movies, magazine etc.
Idol on Stage performances had this as well. Hamasaki (浜崎 (same as now)) Kurumi (くるみ) in 1993.
