TOKYO — Pop singer Ayumi Hamasaki, 31, will release back-to-back singles over two weeks in September, according to a source involved in the production. The first song, titled “Crossroad,” is set for release on Sept 22, with “L” following it a week later on Sept 29. They will be her 49th and 50th original songs.

The source said that the goal is for the second song to ride on the success of the first, thus pushing Hamasaki into record-setting territory. If both songs reach number one on the Oricon pop charts, Hamasaki will become the first artist on her label in 22 years to record 24 number one hits in a row.

interesting marketing strategy though. they think that L can ride on the success of crossroad? i would be worried that instead everyone would buy one and not the other.

Sometimes I wish the internet wouldn't exist though. I just read the comments on Japantoday, and they are mean and unfair. It just makes me angry when people say Ayu should have retired 7 years ago, cannot sing, is talentless and even worse she doesn't write her own lyrics, like some "experts" seem to know. If people hate her so much, why bother commenting at all or reading the article? I honestly hope Ayu or any Celebrity doesn't read all that is written. I know I would cry if I read such comments about myself.

ugh. i didn't read the comments earlier and now that i have i am pissed off.

i can't believe someone claims they work in the industry and ayumi doesn't write her own lyrics and is just paid a flat salary. what idiots. it pisses me off when people bad mouth her and don't even know anything about her. i don't think she is a goddess or anything (even though sometimes i might say she is, haha), but she has talent, loves her fans, and does not deserve to be talked about like that.

oh well...when she sets the new record with her 50th single those haters can just eat it.
