Oh no, that's so sad! I used to love Linkin Park when I was a teenager. Hopefully, you found peace, Chester :'(

I wasn't a huge Linkin Park fan, though I heard their songs on the radio growing up and have one album, but hearing the news today filled me with shock. It's just so strange to think about, to know he's no longer here because he was such a monumental figure when I was growing up and made so many of my friends into fans who always ogled over him. I always respected their music, and knowing a piece of it is gone now... I'm not sure what to think. It's incredibly sad and i wish he could have gotten the help he needed before taking such a drastic measure....

No one suspected that he would be dying anytime soon.
It is becoming increasingly harder to try to ignore that celebrities are dying with sudden mysterious deaths. With increasing frequency.
It also feels like a very big coincidence that a new music video was uploaded on the same day of his death.

I've been a fan since I was a kid...I am heartbroken. I've been trying to keep it together today...this man really had such a huge impact on people of my generation.

I always dreamed of one day seeing them live. I just can't handle this one.

I saw tweets about his death before it was approved. I prayed that it's not true. And then Mike Shinoda said it's true I couldn't stop crying. Though I loved their earlier music and I actually didn't pay much attention to they recent stuff. I got a headache all day today and my eyes were swollen when I just woke up after the night of crying.

I and all my classmates used to listen to their first three albums so much. And they were always on MTV. Few years ago sudden thought came to my mind. I realized how unique Linkin Park's music was and how we were lucky to witness it in the meantime. I can't believe it all came to the end today.

And I really got angry on people who are tweeting "oh, he committed a suicide. if so, there's no pity about his death".

^Yeah, he had a big depression, he was sexually abused by an older man when he was a kid, he never could overcome the trauma (I don't blame him), it's really sad

^Wow...I knew he had done a lot of drugs and that some seriously messed up stuff happened to him but I didn't know about that.

Still really torn up about this. There is only one comfort and that's knowing the legacy he left behind, especially considering that he was so young. I really think his voice is something people, especially his fans, won't forget for a very, very long time if ever.

I just never expected Chester to be someone who'd commit suicide. He was so completely invested in the music, in his ideas. I read somewhere that Chester had started having problems a few years back with his voice -- he wasn't able to do a lot of the scream-singing that had been his hallmark since Hybrid Theory. I also heard from someone that that's a lot of the reason Linkin Park tried such a radically different sound for One More Light.

You know, Chester is an icon. He's not just a music icon, but he's an icon for scrawny looking guys who society tends to think aren't as cool as the more fashionably muscular and well dressed guys. Chester became a sex icon by not being a sex icon. And I can only thank Shinoda and the rest of Linkin Park for really keeping their shit together and staying level-headed for the last 17 years. Almost every other band has fallen apart, most of them in really nasty conflicts and horrible things... but Shinoda and the guys respected each other's places in the group.

Still, Linkin Park is nothing without Chester. It's like losing Left Eye for TLC. I can really like the new TLC album, but it's just not TLC. And while I'd like the band to end things on a memorable note for Chester (please don't let One More Light be the last thing this band does), I hope the group goes quietly into the night afterward. Please don't drag this out like T-Boz and Chili have with TLC. It's the end of an era, but it's been one we will all remember for many decades to come.

^Yeah, I can't imagine them moving forward long term without him. I'm curious to see the path they take.

---

I've had some days to think about it and whenever a new post or video comes up, it just makes me sad again. I think sometimes I look at my favorite artists as people I admire. Linkin Park. J. Cole. Ayumi. Utada. I admire their art and I also love being able to relate to their lyrics and while enjoying the sounds they create.

Chester and the rest of the band consistently created work that so many people, especially my peers in my generation could relate to. When I dealt with emotional times, I always knew I could go to them and even when I didn't like some of their recent releases as much, I enjoyed the lyrical content and took comfort in their continuing presence. It's just so sad to see that Chester didn't make it. And all of those songs that could be relatable and comforting are now just really painful to listen to in this new context.

I always want to see people overcome their mental health issues. It's really unfortunate when it doesn't happen. I thought about my experiences with my own and I want to cheer everyone else on, so it makes me sad when things don't work out. But it's always a reminder that the artists I admire are human and have many things going on. That's why I worry about ayu sometimes, when she doesn't get viewed as a person.

Anyway I didn't feel like posting this to Tumblr or anywhere else and I wanted to share my thoughts.

it's been more than a week now. I calmed a bit now. I've cried for 3 days then went to karaoke and sang all those old songs and it made me feel better.

I've watched lots of videos at YouTube.

this is one of most favorites out of new performances they've made this year. Mike's smile is so warm here. it's so so so heartbreaking that this will never be repeated.

and I'm still waiting for news about Tokyo shows in November. tickets are still on sale and if they don't cancel it I will attend it for sure.
