ummmm..... I wish I could tell you the difference.... i could tell you the difference between varieties of rock, if you were interested in that..... I know trance is well known for going on for hours, but beyond that, I have never heard of jungle or chill..... I definitely am interested in learning this though
C'mon surrealdreams, explain the secrets of life to us lol

OK I don't know everything!
![]() And there are also ppl I know like trainspotter and busy_child could help out here. Sometimes dance music genres can be vague. Everybody has his/her own opinions what is trance, what is techno etc. You can get a lot of info here. It'll take too long to describe it myself. Trance- http://www.clubdjforum.com/trance.html Techno- http://www.clubdjforum.com/techno.html drum & bass, jungle- http://www.clubdjforum.com/jungle.html House- http://www.clubdjforum.com/house.html As a summary, chill(out) is slower, more relaxed, softer beats, etc. etc. You can't really dance to it, but I suppose that's just me.

sometimes they can be vague, too vague esp trance and techno let's just call them all electronic music and leave it ![]() anyway the basic thing's like this electronic music: techno ---detroit, hardcore trance ---epic, goa, dark, hardcore, progressive house ---deep, underground ambient ---illbient, abstract ambient, dark ambient, experimental, LFO -drun n bass ---jungle, breakbeat hardcore IDM eruo ---italo garage ---UK (2-step), US break beat ---d n b, hip hop-old schoool electro chill out r 'n b hip hop ---garage so here basically r the genres and subgenres (somebody explain them for me dun wanna type anymore~). see many of them r interconnected to each other, that's the kind of thing that drives me crazy and there r still a lot of subgenres i'm missing or not too familar w/ (coz i dun listen to all of them lol) |

I think I'll just stay with my different rock genres- there's way too much stuff with trance and techno... okay peruvian, what is the mixolydian pentatonic scale look like in the key of A? (just kidding- I know you know that stuff by now) The only real question I have is how to do a pinch harmonic, but by most explanations i've received for this question, I have decided it's much better to just find someone who knows how to do it, and then learn visually- since from what I can tell, in order to do it properly, you need to see someone else do it first

The best way to explaing playing a pinch harmonic is muting the string you just played with the thumb on your right hand (or left hand if you pick with it). Then vibrating that note with the left hand (or right if you fret with it). I use this technique quite a bit since I do some shred stuff. It adds a really nice ''squeal''. Question, do you read Guitar World every month? That is where I pick up a lot of tricks. I just wish John Petrucci and Joe Satriani would write columns again.
By the way I was referring more to knowlege of genres, artist, songs, etc. in the realms of rock, blues, and jazz. Not so much techniques. I am by no means an expert guitarist (not yet anyway) but I do know a few things. Last edited by Peruvian_Sky; 21st February 2003 at 05:23 AM. |
