PV Directing?

Hm.. Ayu done a lot of things that others have done for her before..

[i.e: composing, arranging]

Is it possible for her to direct her own PVs? I've never really seen it done by the artists that I watch, but.. have people done it before?

Just curious!

Directing has a lot to it. It's a lot harder than choosing nice sounds than you like, which is why a lot of people go to directing schools

But yeah, I'm pretty sure she already has a huge influence/input on her own PVs. Just the camera work and techincal things...

Has Ayu ever arranged a song before? A lot of artists have self produced there own music. I wonder why Ayu doesn't try to one day. I'm a little bored of "Produced my Max Matsuura"

I would believe that Ayu's PVs do have some of her ideas in it...

i think ayu has control of how she wants the PV to be like. but other than that, its up to the director.

and i think it will be funny to direct her own PV. its like she doesnt even need any professionals in her work.

Ayu always gets her way. So if she wants something in a PV, she'll get it... and yeah besides that she composed and arranged some songs aswell, and she wrote all of the lyrics of course

I think that she definitely has input in how the PV looks (like if she sees the rushes and doesn't like a particular clip or the way she looks in a clip, she can probably tell the director to trash it). It's hard to say if the PV ideas begin with her, though. A lot of times, the artist chooses a director based on either their relationship with the director or based on what treatment the director has for a video. The director has a clear idea of what he wants in each shot. In the 'making of' videos, we can see that Ayumi gets a lot of advice and is told what to do by the director. She may have some ideas but ultimately, she is not a director of her videos at this time.

I don't think she's ever arranged a song, she writes/composes it, but someone else arranged it for her...the only song she TRULY composed completely arranged (like utada) was wonderland, which was less than stellar

Well, thing is, Ayu has had no musical background prior to becoming an artist. She had an interesting voice, and Max went with that.

Utada Hikaru however was raised with a musical background and all that. :\ When Hikki was playing music and stuff, at her age, Ayu was partying at clubs and shopping!

Interesting! WONDERLAND wasn't very good. Perhaps Ayu should have a go at creating her very own PV for her 40th single anniversary.

Well you need to also sort of consider that Ayu was never dreaming of music as a youngster..

It's amazing that she does it so professionally the way she does, especially having only been introduced to such things later in life!

What's the difference between composing and arranging?

And she also has a huge say in her live tours, like AT2005. I'm sure she plays the same role in her PV's.

Composing is to make up the basic melody of the song.

Arranging means to put all the instruments together and etc. Where the drums will come in and where guitars will be played.. etc

She should hire a director with talent, like Michel Gondry or Chris Cunningham.

She probably writes how she wants the PV (is Script a good word for it?), and is directed by the visual that the director imagined from her words.

doesn't the PV have to have at least a little to do with the lyrics? She definitely has input in what kind of direction she wants the PV to go, then she probably just hands it over to the director.

what's wrong with WONDERLAND? its not a song, just a little interlude. Its quite effective in showing how things just turn to mush, etc.

It seems more like a way to scare us all. xD A WONDERLAND PV would be funny. It'd be weird if Ayu turned into a clown. O_o You know, I could, strangely, imagine Ayu performing a song in a clown costume.

OT, but Wonderland scares me. That's why I avoid listening to it despite being composed and arranged by CREA.

But yes, I think she gave the initial idea of the PV, and the director decide on how the idea is executed, and stuff like lighting and stuff.

i go an idea...how about she directs a pv of her making a pv for one of her songs...it has to be an energetic song, maybe a bit violent as well...with her acting, then saying 'CUT CUT!!!!!!' XD that'd be funny
