KEVIN RICHARDSON leaves The Backstreet Boys

Quote:
LATEST NEWS

Statement to our fans from the Backstreet Boys regarding Kevin Richardson departure from the group:
“Earlier this year, after much soul searching, Kevin Richardson came to us and told us that he had decided to leave the group and pursue other interests. He gave his blessing to continue the music without him.

We have no intention of replacing Kevin, and the door will always be open for him to return to the Backstreet Boys. We wish him the all the best in his future endeavors.

This weekend we are returning to the studio to begin the follow-up to Never Gone, and will see you later this year with a new album.”

Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean

Statement from Kevin Richardson

“After 13 years of what can only be described as a dream come true, I have decided that it is time to leave the Backstreet Boys. It was a very tough decision for me but one that was necessary in order to move on with the next chapter of my life. Howard, Brian, Alex and Nick will always be my little brothers and have my utmost love and support. I would like to thank the Backstreet fans for all the beautiful memories we have shared together and look forward to including you in the next phase of my life. I wish my brothers continued success and look forward to their new album.”

Kevin

Umm from what I understand the new album was a huge success and sold a lot. So other interests may be he's just tired of the whole boy band thing. I grew out of that like 3 years ago.

Let's see..

-Never Gone only received a single platinum certification. Their other original US albums had 14x, 13x and 8x.
-Incomplete, the most successful from the album, only hit #13 in the US.
-Subsequent singles failed to even reach top 50. Just Want You To Know reached #70, Crawling Back To You reached #59. I Still did not chart.
-The album exitted the Billboard US charts after 14 weeks only.
-Worldwide sales of Never Gone, 3 million, is the lowest among all the albums they have ever released.

Wow, that's way worse than I expected... 'Incomplete' seemed to recieve heavy tv/airplay and that made me think they're pretty much back on top or at least pretty close to it...

But Kevin was the really handsome one... too bad he's gone now.

I didn't know they were still around. Their comeback album last year wasn't much of a comeback for them.

He was handsome, though. Sucky.

well considering north america's pretty much out of the pop phase, you can't expect sales to be as high.

Pop/Rock, not pure pop, I think. Gwen Stefani still sold 3.5 million regardless of her genre which was awesome pop.

Pop/Rock albums seem to have suffered. Ashlee's I Am Me also did not get a million, only 950 000 I think now. Lindsay Lohan's did worse. As for Kelly Clarkson.. She just can't go wrong anymore, can she?

I'm a huge BSB fan and was surprised to hear this piece of news a few days ago.

But I think Kevin does have a chance of doing well on Broadway or other stage musicals because he really impressed in his stint in "Chicago".
