This topic has come up a number of times on the forum, and I've finally a source to point to to back up my stance on Shakira's "Oral Fixation" album title!!
July 14th- "Colombian singer SHAKIRA has slammed reports her new album ORAL FIXATION was named to sound sexual, and insists the title refers to communication. The sexy star raised eyebrows with the title of new latest chart-topping album, but claims everyone misinterpreted what she was trying to say. She explains "It has many layers to it, many dimensions. I've always felt very oral. "We're orally fixated from when we're born. I give enormous importance to chocolate, to kisses. "My mouth is an enormous source of self-indulgence. I'm a communicator, and I enjoy communicating!" Source

I don't think i ever thought of it as sexual myself... but then before it's release i read an interview with her speaking about the meaning of the title.

I don't see what's the problem with people thinking it had sexual connotations. Shakira is a sexy singer and uses her image alot to sell. And as everyone knows in the music imagery, sex sells. (And 'oral fixation' was part of Freud's psycho*sexual* development theory, as mentioned earlier).

I never thought of it as being sexual, although I see why one could see it as sexual. Anyway, I can't wait until I get to see her on September 4th! I've got my tickets already. Hopefully I can see Dir en grey at the Family Values Tour the day before, too.

Yup it was part of Freud's "sexual" development theory that since birth, we've all been fixated in a kind of oral pleasure, such as a mother breastfeeding her child. Hence, he postulates that we're all sexual etc.
Ok, I could go further but it's ridiculous how the media tries to misinterpret her album title. I thought it was quite clear all along.
