Indeed, it is sad, but I don't think it's a great album. Infact, I thought it was her worst...

Was it really that bad? Considering the amount of promotion she received, that's pretty damned good. I hope people weren't actually expecting hundreds of thousands to be sold.

That is pretty depressing, but I don't think I expected any more than that to sell. The promotion was horrible, and America just doesn't seem to pick up on Asian artists, whether they speak English or not. I thought Exodus was a really good album, and it was at times stronger than some of her Japanese work.

Well, this isn't Japan. America is at least twice the size of Japan, so I think, IMO, 30,000 is a really low number.

not just twice, but three times the size of japan...

imo, exodus is the worst album by a japanese artist that i've ever heard... sorry, hikki fans inane lyrics, leftover 80s synth music, terrible singing, bad arrangments, etc...

It wasn't good nor bad, it was pretty much ignored. I guess promotion was horrid from the start since Utada started Exodus at the same time with promotion for Mariah's multi-million album. Of course her company would rather spend more time on Ms.Carey than Utada.

Plus she should have made a music video for Devil Inside, it was gold. IMO, its an excellent album, no bad tracks.

wasn't there a video for Devil Inside? anyway, it was popular enough without it... it reached number one on the billboard dance charts...

it was the only good song in the album, imo. nearly every track was hampered by the sub-intelligent lyrics... i mean, hikki isn't that great with lyrics, but she just lowered the bar with exodus: oversimplification of east-west culture clash to the point of caricature and stereotype, extremely awkward phrasing and word choice if not badly cliche (especially from someone who's fluent in english!), childish notions about sexuality that seem to infect nearly every popular R&B song, etc.

and i haven't even talked about the musical composition

comparing the singing on exodus with her japanese material is like comparing fruitcake with a red velvet cake...

I don't understand.

Did people ever notice/read/feel/and understand the lyrics of EXODUS album? The lyrics of that album contains a lot of connotations, interpretations, meanings, & a lot of hidden messages. O_O

You took the words out of my mouth, but better. Sure Hikki has an awesome voice, and some of the best songs to listen to, but this album is just bleh~...

The ones I liked was Exodus and Devil Inside

@babyutada - What exactly did I say that offended you?

Can Hikki at least get credit gaving it a try......It was just to low promotion on her companies part as you guys know. You guys know that if Hikki made it big here you would be saying Exodus is one of her best works. So don't go saying it's one worst works because that's very offensive. Let's just hope she gives it another try and make it big here..............
Even if she did make it big in America I wouldn't care because I already think she's bad even if she has the record for highest selling album in Japan. Is it wrong to say the music was bad because to some of us it is? No one's bashed Utada as a person e.g. she's fugly, and no one's made vulgar comments either.

I personally hope she doesn't try to debut again in North America because as an Asian, and hearing those lyrics that she sings makes me wonder what was she trying to achieve, by saying she's Japanesey .

To the first paragraph, I agree. We're not really bashing the artist; just stating our opinions.

To the second one, I disagree. It would be nice to see her try again, but I don't want another Exodus.

BTW, the last sentence made me Lol'd~

i thought EXODUS was an amazing album from utada!
at least now she's not singing all the boring same mainstream stuff everyone else is
i love the originality, uniqueness, and experimental feel that EXODUS delivered.
but you can't beat ULTRA BLUE

That's so sad
I have to say that Exodus wasn't bad but it wasn't one of Utada's best works...
The arrangments could be better, sometimes the lyrics are disappointing (her japanese lyrics are more meaningful) but Utada's voice was excellent I'm so happy because it was the oportunity that I had to support her but I expected more sales

@ Joey - I wouldn't mind to see her try again, even though I don't care much for her, but as long as she changes her lyrics to something better than "So I showed him, how people in the Far East get down."

It's ...Joel

But anyways, you're right. I think she should just focus on her music/lyrics like she would as if she would if she was in Japan. Not, "Hey! I'm asian! Listen to my music because I'm asian." Don't want to offend anyone, but this is the kind of message I'm getting. I beleive that she can make it (or at least better than Exodus) if she doesn't use anny gimmicks, such as the asian card.
