Overseas Sales?
Does anyone know where to find sales for Ayu's albums in Taiwan/HK/SG/Korea/China? I've seen the G-Music charts from Taiwan, but they never actually say how many copies she's sold. I've seen Hikki's overseas sales before, is there a reason why they don't seem to be avaliable for Ayu?

I also find it strange that the UWC doesn't compile any Japanese singers' sales outside of Japan; they do it for American artists, after all. I thought the whole point of the UWC was to record global sales, not just repeat national ones.

taiwan never say the exact amount of sales. most of the time, we see those 'celebration' of selling '10 000', '25 000', or '30 000' opies. they simply round off.

Jpop isn't really that popular. Some of the popular Jpop artists in Korea are Mika, BoA, DBSK (these 2 are pretty obvious) and I think Arashi.

Gackt and Koda Kumi are also very popular.

Really? My korean friends told me Koda Kumi was actually quite unpopular in SK. I find it very interesting which singer si popular where, dunno why.

I think Kuu's popularity started to grow in Korea because Ahyoomi from Sugar sang the Korean cover of 'Cutie Honey'...

I could see why that would make her popular, Cutie Honey is a great song. Speaking of Kuu, i wonder how she does overseas? Didn't she win the Best Asian Artist award in Singapore last year?

The overseas sales numbers rarely appear before our eyes, only on very few occasions do we hear about them, and often it's rounded off... yeah, a lot has already been said in this thread and the answer to your question is nothing but that it's all quite a mystery. In many Asian countries bootlegs are extremely popular and I believe that makes counting sales numbers and releasing them to the public make no sense, since it wouldn't really reflect an artists popularity in a fair way. I believe all sales numbers, or at least number of shipped copies, are only known by avex themselves.
I made a compilation of shipped copies of Ayu CD's that I collected from avex's English homepage long time ago but I deleted it recently. There was some overseas numbers in there, too, I think. Note that shipped does not equal sold copies of CD's, shipped copies would be the CD's that avex & Ayu benefits from, but not necessarily the amount of CD's that reach the hands of fans. The RIAJ awards are also based on the shipped amount of CD's rather than sold. |

Don't trust the numbers on the wiki pages, they're not reliable sources since they were written by people like you and me. Unless the wiki page states any official or reliable source it's basically worthless information.

though she's getting more and more popular here, but there are people who don't feel comfortable to admit openly they like kuu, due to her image sadly....there are elderly, uncles, aunties and even youngster who think you arecrazy when you like kuu, since they think she's errrr....cheap. there were 2 people who said that they told she look 'cheap' and '****ty' to me and their eyes open so big when i told them i LIKE kuu for her boldness.

The m(u) page says that the album was #7 on the overall charts last year in Taiwan; is that one true? I can't find a source to back it up.

I do not know about that, maybe you could find something about it if you do a few searches in the News section of AHS around that time.
