Kuu vs Ayu vs Ai
Greetings!
It's interesting how Avex has the three top female artists right now. But when I actually looked at the original album sales figures of the three, I was shocked to see the statistics. See below. Kuu Albums = 5 Sales = 1926800 (1.92 million) Average = 385360 (385 k) Note that BEST ~second session~ sold 1,782,437, which is not included above. (Though you could consider it as an "original album" since I think the tracks are mutually exclusive to her other albums) Ayu Albums = 9 (including Memorial Address) Sales = 14782484 (14.8 million) Average = 1642498 (1.64 million) Ai Albums = 3 Sales = 2186618 (2.19 million) Average = 728873 (729 k) * * * Boa (if anyone was interested) - Considering only original Japanese album sales in Japan Albums = 5 Sales = 3599251 (3.60 million) Average = 719850 (720 k ) Hikaru Utada (wow...9X Kuu) Albums = 5 (Including Exodus, not including Star) Sales = 17694525 (17.7 million) Average = 3538905 (3.53 million) Namie Albums = 6 (Excluding Super Monkey's and Suite Chic) Sales = 7124014 (7.12 million) Average = 1187336 (1.19 million) * * * I was surprised to see that Kuu's original album sales are even lower than Ai's. Not really, since Ai has had success since her 1st album while Kuu only had success since her 4th album.

Oh, and while we're at it, BoA's studio albums have sold more than Ai's and Kuu's.

in the future Kuu's average will surely ascend and Ayu's will descend and for Ai i'm not sure

I don't really see a point in counting the average sales per album.
anyways , when it comes to the "pecking order" in Avex Kuu is definitely above Ai. I might have more consistency in her single sales , but she hasn't reached massive sales like some succesful Kuu singles like Koi No Tsubomi & Yume no Yuta /Futari De. regardless of the average album sales , Ai doesn't come close to the success of Kuu's both BEST albums (which account for like 70% of Kuu's total album sales ![]() imo , Ayu's been so much longer in the business there's no point comparing her sales to Kuu's or Ai's. also , whats the source for these sales numbers? they seem a bit low for especially Kuu (secret sales are in the 500 000 , the BEST's both sold over 1,5 million each , Black Cherry is at least 900 000. I think even if you leave out the first BEST and count only the original albums Kuu's sales should be close to 3 million ...) Last edited by Halla; 21st March 2007 at 11:38 PM. |

Go Ai!!
If memory serves me correctly LOVE JAM/PUNCH/COOK were all pretty decent sellers, while Kuu's earlier stuff sold about 3 copies. I'm not bashing Kuu, i like her, but i think that on original albums Ai would have sold more since looking at the big picture, Kuu's majority of sales have stemmed from her best's.

Hmmmn... they're just numbers. They can't really reflect how popular the artists at this moment. I gotta be objective on kuu. The physical sales have been declining, so fluctuation adjustment is one of the key factors. Let's use Black Cherry as an example. It has been sold over 9XXK copies so far. If this was released back in 2000 or so the numbers would be different (comparing someone who had similar popularity in 2000 to kuu). It might have sold around 1.5 - 2 million copies at least. That was same to kuu's first two best albums. I would say each would get around 3 million copies if they released in 2000.
Of course, if we pushed ayu's A BEST or her best selling album "Duty" back to 1995 - 2000 or so, the number of copies would be altered as well. The "real" numbers only reflect how well a really popular artist's album is gonna sell during that particular era. And yeah... if comparing kuu or ai having a successful single... I think one Sakuranbo can beat koi no tsubomi + Yume no uta. I really think those two kuu singles are just the selling ones... I still consider Butterfly as her most successful song in terms of popularity ![]()
