Definitions of a side, b side, maxi single.....
Forgive my ignorance, but I have been trying to understand what all of the
words mean. A side, B side, what do they mean? What are they cassette tapes? About Maxi singles, what are the differences? Are they different kinds of singles? A remix single is a remix. An album is an album. Please educate this Ayu fan...

A Side is a song that appeared on an album
B Sides are from singles only, and never appear on albums Most of the time, but not always, A Sides come with PVs |

that depend on the artists ayu most of the time includes her B SIDE songs on the album, and I is like a Cassette an A SIDE is the song she.s promoting at the moment the B SIDE is other song or songs that are included on the single. a maxi single comes with more songs than a regular single I believe, or it comes with something extra. Edit: like Dusite says!

Not really, alterna was a B-side and it was on (miss)understood...
A-side is the song that's in the title of a single, while B-side is a song that is included on the single, but isn't in the title. Sometimes they write "fairyland c/w alterna", but that's just for information, it's not the actual title.

B-sides aren't really promoted. A-sides are the songs that are promoted.

Basically, nowadays its meaning has been pushed away from the real meaning. It's just a mere title and serves no purpose other than getting people hyped up. I mean.....people would rather go "OMG! This time it's double a-side/come with b-sides/a maxi single!!" rather than "Oh, this is her xxth single."

In Japan, I don't think there's a written rule that B-sides can't appear on albums and A-sides must appear on albums either.
Not all A-sides appear on albums while at the same time there are also B-sides that appear on albums. If I remember correctly, someone in the forum said that Maxi singles are basically the 12cm "regular sized" singles we see everyday. "fairyland" is NOT a double A side single. It's only a single A. (As is INSPIRE, HEAVEN and BLUE BIRD) |

I think c/w songs are still considered as B-sides.

hmmm..... Now it is not as clear as I thought.....
But I think I still get the idea, even though the industry rules have changed.
