[article] Kanade hopes for alarm call debut
Excerpt:
Quote:
One of the more audacious singles scheduled for release next week is "Ring the Alarm" by Osaka-based singer Kanade. Contrary to initial suspicions, her major-label debut is not a cover of Beyonce's frantic hit of the same title, but it does make a remarkably similar siren-screeching start.
So what's going on? Is Kanade signalling a lofty aim to become Japan's answer to the former Destiny's Child diva, or is she making use of familiarity with a song title to make a bigger first splash on the market?
Talking to the bubbly singer, it sounds more like the latter.
"In terms of performance, I love Beyonce, but that doesn't mean you can say I want to be like Beyonce. That would be a misunderstanding. I don't have that feeling at all," she explains. "I want to be me, Kanade."
"It's a question of impact. 'Ring the Alarm' shouts out that Kanade is here. It's making an appearance with a big bang," she explains.
