Do covers matter?

Since we're all waiting for the covers of the new album, I ponered over buying one of the albums because of the covers.

So... has an Ayumi CD/single cover stopped you from buying a release?

I was about to, but the covers were done very badly.

not just the photos, but the text, the colors, the layout, everything.

That's why I'll wait for this album's covers.

For me they don't matter anymore. I definately don't buy as many of her singles as I used to but that's just cause they don't have the multiple remixes anymore. When I do buy one it's either cause it has a particular remix or bonus track (Ladies Night ~Another Night~ & TEENS) or cause the PV might be different (like glitter/fated). As far as albums go I always buy them sooner or later.
There have been other artists that I have bought CDs solely for the cover (mostly singles though). I got hitomi's samurai drive single cause of the cover and I still want her Is it You? single for the cover too.

Not with albums, but when collecting the singles I don't buy the ones with covers I don't like.

With albums, I'll always accept the cover enough to buy it.

Of course, once I actually it, there's nothing stopping me from changing that cover in some way, shape, or form.

To me it makes no difference. I'm buying it for the music, not the cover. The case just goes on my shelf anyway.

They most certainly do and a bad cover will seriously screw up a good album for me. The image on that cover sticks in my mind when I listen to the songs (that and the PV, if applicable) so I'll be thinking of the haunting cover if there's nothing else to go by (i.e. lives or a PV). There are some CDs that I honestly will not buy because of the covers. I don't care how good the songs are (which forces me to question my motives in buying Britney's Blackout).

covers are so important IMO
it should represent the album as a whole
if it's a beautiful picture, the content is more likely to be perceived as beautiful
if the cover's ugly, we're going to have that bias that "maybe the songs will be ugly too"

ayu hasn't really had a problem with covers
Secret and MY STORY were the best
and the worst was definitely (miss)understood

NOTHING FROM NOTHING was pretty damn ugly.

I think covers for CDs are really important. They may not have anything to do with the music, but it's part of the CD's presentation. I've bought CDs with bad covers, but I'd definately appreciate it more if the cover was nice too.

It never has stopped me from buying an album, but BLUE BIRD's covers were so beautiful that it was a huge factor in me deciding to buy my first (and probably only) Ayu single. I really loved both BLUE BIRD and Beautiful Fighters, and the two remixes on the single were a dream come true.

I won't look at the cover because every year I get her new album for xmas and starting last year I decided to enhance the "surprise" effect and anticipation of the album, I will no longer look at the covers for her albums or read the track listing/descriptions of the tracks. Around this time I have to make sigs/avatars and such un-viewable so I won't spoil it!

i will buy all her albums definitely...

but for singles, i consider the covers. i will only buy a single that has good songs, PVs and covers. then its totally worth buying. so far i have only bought INSPIRE, STEP you / is this LOVE? and glitter / fated..

hmm.. i'll buy any of her releases.. but well.. as for the cd+dvd and cd only..
i'll always choose CD+DVD not based on the covers.. so covers don't really matter for me actually..

Yeah, I'm pretty much with you on this one. 'Duty' is like my favorite album ever, but the cover and cat-thing theme is incredibly tacky... But you know, I still bought it.

I care about the way Ayu presents herself, but most of the time I find her covers irrelevant to the music inside anyway.. So I just stopped caring.

Covers really aren't much of a factor in whether or not I buy an album/single, it's all about the music to me. I love Ayu so I try to buy what I can to support her.
