What's this DVD AUDIO thing?
Hi there!
![]() I have a question: What are MY STORY/RAINBOW DVD AUDIO? I have a vague idea myself but I'm not quite sure: A CD that you can put in your DVD player? Anyway, can someone please explain it more clearly? (I already checked YesAsia and eneaba.net but that didn't help very much) THANK YOU

DVD-Audio (also known as DVDA) is a digital format for delivering very high-fidelity audio content on a DVD. DVD-Audio includes no video and should not be confused with video DVDs containing concerts and music videos. The first discs entered the marketplace in 2000. Future occasional DVD-Audio releases are expected and/or have been announced. DVD-Audio is in a format war with Super Audio CD, another format for delivering high-fidelity audio content. Neither has gained much traction in the marketplace. Since media players that can play many formats (including DVD-Audio and SACD) are available, both formats are likely to co-exist (as do Blu-ray and HD DVD).

The article is wrong in that they say that they don't have video.. Ayu's did.. her MY STORY one played the PVs as the song came up in the playlist.

If played on DVD AUDIO mode, there's absolutely no video, and the sound is 5.1 PCM 192KHz

A simple explanation of a DVD-Audio would be that it's like a CD but with far superior sound quality.
You can play it on a DVD player but in order to listen to the high quality audio you need a dedicated DVD-A player or a high-end sound card for your computer. To notice the difference between CD and DVD-Audio you'll need a really expensive audio system and speakers. We're talking about $XX,XXX here. There can be video on a DVD-A and you can play it on a normal DVD player, a normal DVD player won't be able to play the high quality audio. @Dark Eiri, I can choose to play the videos from MY STORY DVD-A with the 5.1 PCM 192KHz sound on my computer if I don't remember wrong, it was long time ago. |
