WinMX help
Just recently when I was downloading songs, they won't save as mp3 files. I normally send the songs I download from WinMX to my Kazaa shared folder, but instead of the songs going to the audio section, they go to the others section now. The icon of all the songs looks like a miniature box with a blue border on top in the others section of kazaa but when you open the shared folder, they turn into a small icon of a white page with the microsoft window picture in the center. The thing is that I can still play the songs on Windows Media but the songs aren't saved onto the playlist. Does anyone know how to
-convert the files to mp3 so they'll go to the audio section of kazaa -make them able to stay in the WMP playlist -make all new WinMX downloads go to the audio section of kazaa |

It sounds like when you first download the songs they save as "files" which don't have a specific extention or as .dat files. Nevertheless, WinMedia usually plays them without problem. My suggestion is to add the .mp3 extention either by 1) renaming the files in WinMX to include the .mp3 extention or by 2) renaming the files in the folder you share your music in.
Instructions: For 1), open WinMX and click on the "Shared File Types" icon in the "Shared Files" folder. Make sure it includes .dat files or "files." Then click "OK." If the files appear, right click them and select "Rename." Lastly, change/add the .mp3 extention. When you open them in WinMedia it might say that the extention doesn't match the file and would you like WinMedia to play it anyway. Either way, the file still works. For 2), open the actual folder (in Windows) where your files downloaded to. Click "Tools > Folder Options > View." Deselect "Hide Extentions for Known File Types." All of the files in the folder should appear with the full file name and extention. Select the non-mp3 ones and rename them to include the .mp3 extention. Then the icon will change to match the program you use to listen to them. (In this case, a sheet of paper and a WinMedia icon.) If all goes well, the files will be able to work in the WinMedia playlist and work in Kazaa's audio section. Hope that helps! |
