Gals cultivating that sultry bar hostess look (Ayu mentioned)

Excepts:
Quote:
Japan is witnessing the birth of another new tribe of young women, called "agejo," identifiable by their pale skin, large eyes and over-the-top hairdos.

They are now omnipresent on the streets, following in the footsteps of the once popular "kogyaru" — "ko" as in high school student plus the English word gal transliterated into Japanese — who were instantly recognizable by their deeply tanned faces.
Quote:
The agejo ideal is white skin and eyes made to appear larger with the use of eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara and false eyelashes. Topping off the look are curly locks. The style is believed to have been influenced by singer Ayumi Hamasaki but has since developed in its own unique way.

Good that Ayu was mentioned, but I personally find "sultry bar hostess" kind of insulting for Ayu? I mean that's not the look she does... it's really more high-class yet sexy at the same time...

Thanks still!

i first thought it said "****ty" lol.

thanks for the info

but, i just call them hostesses, lol. most of the time that's what they are. especially in Kabukicho hahaha~ i tend to think they look too "lady of the night"--if you catch my drift. i prefer other types of Gal's ^_^

*and does anyone else feel that if ANY other ethnic group were to dress like this, they would immediately be labeled as prostitutes (among other words)?

Woah! That one is really pretty! Now if only I had my long hair back, I could curl it and totally be one of them. =P WITHOUT eye makeup! ahaha.

Nice info! And lol,I kinda agree with waterballoon, cuz I don't think Ayu dresses like a Hooters girl(no offense to y'all lovely ladies out there at Hooters),it's more of a sophisticated look. But that's just me.And waterballon.

i think they're cute lol

I don't think "Hooters" is what they were going for...
"Despite a recession in the magazine business, a monthly advising bar hostesses on hairstyles, makeup and fashion has been a hit since its inception about three years ago. Koakuma Ageha (Little Devil Swallowtail Butterfly), published by Inforest Co. in Tokyo, sells about 300,000 copies a month.

Models in the magazine are called agejo, a word derived from the magazine title plus "jo," or young woman, and many of them work at nightclubs. Such female nightclub employees are also known as "butterflies of the night.""

The bar hostess thing is only because a lot of bar hostesses are starting to dress that way lol

I think they look cute...besides, eye makeup and fake eyelashes are totally in right now in the fashion world.

They do look like ayu though.

That one on the left's hair color is soo awful. ew.

The blonde girl kind of looks plastic, but the brunette is really cute. I love her whole look, especially the pink & black jacket/shirt she's wearing. Very cute! I am glad that Ayu is still looked at as a fashion icon.

that article kind of made me laugh. i think agejo look really good though.. hEH, i dun know if i really equate it to sultry bar-hostess though. ayu has always been a huge fashion icon in japan though, in some ways i feel like everyone plays off of each other to make their style. i agree though that agejo is highly influenced by ayu currently, i`m not saying it`s bad, it`s saying that ayu is always a huge trend-centre to all different styles (example, my signature with ayu in the roses, is very~ agejo style). agejo girls are normally though the girls that nampa constantly hit-on in high districts of tokyo, like downtown shinjyuku or shibuya. sanks for the article~.
