In the lyrics to I am..., Ayumi talks about searching for just one word. What do you think that word is?

I personally think that the word is goodbye, I mean, the lyrics to me appear to be about loss and parting. But what about you guys?

I am came afterwards A Best era..that time she was fightin' against avex, because she felt more a product than a person and her choices were all finalized to sales..
so maybe identity and freedom are the right ones.

I thought it meant her "name"? I've always thought it's just like that and never given any more thought to it

So it doesn't literally mean her name Ayumi but more like, who she truly is and by what "name" the universe gives her, sorta like losers and winners in no more words.

EDIT: so the "word" imo isn't yet known in the song since she is still looking for it, so it's hard to say. Of course there's the theory of it going like "I am... Rainbow". I am -> She doesn't know what she really is, Rainbow -> She has come to see she's "a rainbow".

identity. Cos she sings about it in Naturally... like the identity-crisis thingy.

I mean at that A BEST era... she was really unsure of herself. Who, or what is she? Ayu? ayumi hamasaki? avex's marionette/product?

She wanted desperate to find out who she is. And I am... is the epitome of that confusion.

Interesting, I never thought of her being looking for the word 'freedom' or 'identity'.

^ i always took it to be "love" too, because it's one of the common themes that she "lacks" or "searches for" in her songs.

Maybe the word should be taken in the context of the verse as pommy48 pointed out. Myself, identity and freedom seem to fit.
