So I've recently come to the conclusion that my old PSP-1000 is obsolete and needs to be replaced. I really just to use it to listen to music and watch MVs, so I've decided to just to go with a straight mp3 player this time. I don't know which one though.
![]() I've always wanted an ipod touch, but they're too fragile from what I've seen. I need something that can take a hit as i usually trip over the power cord 3+ times a day. And I used to have a 3rd gen ipod and the audio quality is not so great from what a remember, not to mention all the crashes and freezes which in the end led to me finally smashing the screen in fustration and throwing it in the trash. Plus i really don't need those apps and what not. So i was thinking maybe Sony Walkman X (I kind of favor sony but this is kind of expensive) or Samsung P3 (I also like this one since it comes with a usb charger), both of which have great audio quality from what I've heard. I would greatly appreciate some input on this, especially if anyone here has any of these and could vouch for them, it would help me make up my mind. |

For MP3 players (if you're getting it mainly to listen to music, which you should be, hah), Sony is definitely the way to go. They are practically famous alone for having the overall best sound in their players, by far. I'm actually about to get a new MP3 player, myself, and I'll be getting a Sony, because the other brands I've had don't compare by a long shot.
![]() ![]() I haven't heard much good or bad about Samsung, so I won't input there, but... I'd advise against the Touch, for sure. It's still very hyped, but nearly every person I've heard talk about the Touch was kinda disappointed by it. Also, it's not made specifically for music, so don't expect that. In my opinion, the Touch is way too much for something that isn't nearly as good as they make it out to be. :\ Last edited by Crystal_Ageha; 15th December 2009 at 04:15 AM. |

Thanks for the input so far!
![]() Yeah I've been strongly leaning more towards an ipod alternative (I don't really like apple products), but it is the 'mainstream' brand and I don't want to spend $200+ on some underground piece of crap. Yeah, I just heard about the Samsung p3 today, and from what I've read it has some neat features like you can use bluetooth to synch it with your phone and use it answer calls and basically make it a cellphone. It also has a Sensme/Genius type software, and supports divx and other video codecs (which gives it extra points). The only drawback I've heard are the headphones it comes with are not great and poor customer support. |

I voted for the i-pod.
I have the sony walkman but, honestly, it doesn't satisfies me well. The quality of sound is uncomparable to the i pod one. Moreover you can use it for other needs

I'm starting to lean more towards the Ipodtouch. I really want the sony walkman but hell, for $30 less ($250 was the cheapest I could find it) I just could just buy a PSPgo.
So yeah, I'm still very undecided. |

![]() And yeah, I have a Zune, and it's okay. I really like the Zune player (as in, compared to Windows Media Player) more than the actual thing, though. :X Zune is definitely better than iPod and no-names, that's for sure. But for how expensive they are, you could probably find something you enjoy a lot more. I just gave in to one because I couldn't order online at the time, and because none of my local stores carried anything other than 8GB crap and iPods (which I really didn't want either ![]() I still think you should go for a Sony. Any model, really, if you're looking for the best sound and mostly use it for a music player. The S series is actually really cheap and very nice, despite some people thinking it feels cheap to the touch. The only downside to those are the lack of space (well, for some people--it only comes in up to 16GB, which is definitely kinda lacking for me :\). Spoiler:
I think one of the reasons the X series is so expensive is because the headphones it comes with are like $50 by themselves, not to mention the smallest size is 16gb. What I'm looking for space wise is something at least 8gb but no more than 16gb. 32gb is too big, I don't need EVERYTHING on my player. As for Zunes, I've tried them before, I don't like the UI. |

I've had my 160GB iPod for two years, and I've had two replacements; the third one I got works perfectly though, so I definitely recommend it.

How did they force you..? I know their accessories can be expensive, but I've never seen them MAKE you buy something that you need. And really, the only accessory I've even considered buying is a wall jack charger, and you can actually find them cheap for Sony models.

Ok I've decided. I went with the 32gb Ipod touch.
In the end it came down to the touch and the sony walkman. What led me to my decision? Well, 1. I saw pictures of both and I was thinking the walkman was too small for my hands. 2. I heard the browser on the walkman is crap. Worst than the PSP browser. 3. I also heard the the Walkman tends to lag a little when showing album artwork. 4. I wanted something to get here before christmas and with tax and shipping i just couldn't afford the Sony walkman and Apple was giving out free 1 day shipping. And if the touch is a POS then next year I'll just get the walkman, and by that time the price of the walkman would have gone down. |
