Seriously, was it 'over' when Ayu didn't sell out 'Daybreak'? Was it 'over' when 'A BALLADS' didn't hit 1 million? Was it 'over' when Ayu went from 591k with '&' to 222k with 'forgiveness'?

No.

The sale figure is only one symbol of popularity. There are still other factors. But, her best and single just indicated that she ended her peak and are becoming another "orange range". (well... koda is ,in fact, declining faster than orange range).

P.S
please don't compare an album cut(daybreak) to koda's original single. There is a big difference between 60,000(BUT) and 1X0,000(forgiveness).At least, they are not at the same so-called "class".

Also, A ballads sells MUCH more than her ballads best(300,000 is already a low standard for big stars like her). I understand that ballads best never sells as great as 'normal' best, but her decline in sale is so fast that you can already see her end. After all, koda is only a boom.

How can you say she is only a boom? She beated Ayu's sales for 2 times in a row so I don't see her as a boom, now people know her and started to appreciate her earlier works and I don't think she will go down so easily, she isn't just another occidental singer that shows her body and can't even sing decently in a live, she has talent for real.

well if you have to compare koda and ayu...koda beat ayu 2 times...but with what? lets see....2 best albums, 12 single collection, and the rest of the singles she released last year. Koda was at her peak too and ayu long passed hers.

I think kodas recent decline in sales might just be a bad timing or something...maybe her next single (or if shes releasing 2 singles at the same time o_O) and studio album (hopefully) will do better. Hope she wont do another drama or attach whatever to the album and we will see how well it will sell.

A 'boom' doesn't mean that she has no talent. I really think she sings and dance well. Some people have talent, but they're still a boom. WANDS and Misia(has 4 million album, two over 2 million) were once very popular, yet they went down QUICKLY(Misia fell from 800,000 to 200,000) in two/three years time. Dare you say that they are not a boom? But they still have talent, right?

Koda is pushed so hard by avex(12 singles/3 Bests in 3 years) in ways that I've never seen.Once those things cease, she has a great chance to fall.

Ayu is already a female version of B'z/Mr.children, you can't really say that " Kat-tun has beaten B'z/Mr.children for X times, so they are taking over them!!"

They are not comparable.

BUT is #3 on DLs, #3 on the Oricon tracks chart. Aishou is #10 on DLs. I think that's better this is doing better than OR's "Champione". (first single after NATURAL).

You mean "Koda's original limited single".

Regarding 'forgiveness', there really isn't a big difference.
Ayu went from '&' selling 591k to 'forgiveness' selling 222k. That's a 62% drop.

Kuu went from 'Yume no Uta' (I'm not counting Cherry Girl for obvious reasons) which sold 301k to 'BUT/Aishou' which would need to sell 116k to experience the same 62% drop Ayu did.

Again, you don't even know how much avex produced (in the # of copies) with this album.

Ayu? (And I guess you don't know about AAA)

That's because B'z isn't even Jpop and Mr. Children isn't an idol group like KAT-TUN.

On the other hand, Ayu and Kuu are both idol-type singers.

=====

I don't think you can really judge after 1 single. Wait for her next release, then decide.

Actually WANDS declined when Show Wesugi left the band, but I think it's normal that a band loses 50% of the fans when is the vocalist that is replaced.

About sales..well it doesn't mean that Kumi with her next single or album or whatever can't go up again..every artists have their ups and downs and now for a solo singer sell like 800,000 it's IMPOSSIBLE, time change, sales change...look at Namie..she has a decline time but she is going up again.

Ayu's promotion on 2001 was even worse than Kumi's, just check out how many releases she had that year (about 26 mega maxi singles, even thought they are considered singles, remix singles, release of her "normal" singles in mega maxi singles)

lol... that's probably coz like Ai was voted no.1 one by males as the celebrity they'd most like to date.

hahaha

Utada pwns all of them by far .... at playing Tetris
lol... She's a pretty good music artist as well. Though I'm more impressed by her arrangements than her singing

I agree with this. As I mentioned before, I'd doubt any artist could have beated Ayu 2 years in a row (in her prime) without having some talent. After listening to Sen no Kotoba, I thought that she was an exceptional singer. Today, I still regard her as one of the best mainstream female singers in Japan.

What she wears doesn't change how well she sings =)

I think it's fairly safe to say that Kuu has started declining. Between BC debuting at 500k and the low sales of this new best and single, it would seem as if 2006 was her best year.

True, it definately could be premature, but i think after a studio album, best album, and single all do no meet expectations, there's a very high chance we're seeing a decline in popularity.
