Disappointing 10th anniversary.

It may not be that Ayumi doesn't want to go all out - it may be that Avex is limiting her. Her tenth anniversary is important to her, but to Avex, she's a ten-year-old entertainer who's past her peak and bound to go on the decline sooner or later. Avex may have wanted to devote more time and publicity to its other acts, such as Koda Kumi, EXILE, etc. This is just one hypothesis.

Another hypothesis is that Ayumi went through some rough patches, and while years ago she was climbing up the mountain of success, right now, she's looking down from the summit. The Ayumi of the present is different from the Ayumi from the past. Things have changed for her.

That said, I actually want her to release another summer single - I'm tired of her ballads. They're good, but I suppose I'm just not in a ballad mood.

But oricon has had some rumours that Avex can control numbers sometimes.

That's true. I'm sure Avex is focusing it's efforts on more current acts. Ayumi is popular, but she's a big veteran. Her name is really enough to give a single decent sales.

I could see Ayumi seeing this as high as she can go, or maybe she sees this as the climb down. She's lost one of her ears, that makes it a lot harder than you'd think it would to sing. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the other one goes. She could be slowly easing us into her approaching end.

avex can't control numbers at all since avex doesn't count oricon's sales.
Oricon count on its own. It has nothing to do with avex. They are getting sales numbers from the stores not from avex. xD
Those rumors are baseless and sound like an excuse for why some releases are #1. It's pretty pointless to think that avex has anything to do with oricon's countings.

You're not getting my point, it still makes NO SENSE AT ALL.

Avex has money, they could easily pay off Oricon if they really wanted too. Nothing is absolute in a world where there's money.

I'm sure it's also highly illegal and if found out, avex could get shut down.

Avex aren't the only ones that got money, if what you say is true any other company could pay the right price for their artist to be #1.

Oricon has high reputation, it's unique for not taking money for changing numbers.

I don't think they might have manipulated the numbers. Maybe the avex people went to buy a large amount of the single themselves. Haha. I know avex can't buy ORICON out.

Hmm... I suppose... Going by the standpoint of putting lives on the DVDs, the Team Ayu live is the only one that makes sense, but by that view point, you're right there are better things they could have done but didn't.

I'm pretty sure a large group of fans went to her concerts the week that MW came out [4/12 and 4/13] and all bought it. They were probably waiting until then to buy it anyway since they give you tons of extras.

There was a famous article that was published in 2003 speaking out against Avex, saying that the chart numbers were very inaccurate for different reasons.
There was a court case between oricon and the guy who published this. There was an interview with someone who said he randomly inputted numbers for different ranks.

I don't really care... because now, I think Oricon is really kept under watch, but there HAS been scandals, like any business.

New performances that havent been released before anywhere (A-Nation gigs, etc.) as Team Ayu was on the TV; makings of for old clips; behind-the-scenes-of-the-studio; unreleased demo tracks; etc.

anyways I hope that avex buys off Oricon to get Ayu #1 =) She deserves it more than the overhyped bs from nowadays like that Suu~something talentless boysband that almost outsold mirrorcle world
BUT if they could do that they would have done it for GUILTY imo. the only way they can influence ranks imo is by doing big sales like what they did for Mirrorcle World

Ayu has a reason for releasing this, and that's the 10th anniversary. It's her first true single collection, so it makes sense, but why not? Why not during her actual anniversary?
